If you were a child at any time in Ireland from 1986 to 2010, then you are likely to have been influenced by the childhood icon, Dustin the Turkey.

Dustin the Turkey graced the screens of The Den alongside Soky the Sock Monster, Zig and Zag, and Zuppy.

Dustin was a character full of life and wit, and children who grew up during his reign most definitely picked up some of his character traits.

Keep reading to discover some of the things you might have in common with Dustin.

    10. You’re cheeky – always ready for backtalk

Dustin never held back from slagging anyone off, regardless of their fame or fortune.

He had no fear in accusing our first female president of having smelly feet, and we loved him for his daring attitude.

    9. You love the Toy Show – you will watch it no matter what

Dustin was a huge fan of the Late Late Toy Show.

If you love the Late Late Toy Show, you have something in common with Dustin the Turkey.

Dustin loved the show so much that he would often break on to the show, despite being barred.

Who can forget the time he tried to dig his way into the studio, blaming the failed attempt on the person who built the Port Tunnel?

    8. You love Eurovision – you’d love to star in it

Dustin loved Eurovision so much that he took part in it back in 2008.

He has been blamed by some Liveline callers for ruining Ireland’s integrity in the competition.

However, he came back with, “The reason I went in 2008 is because the year before that, Ireland finished plum last.

“And the year before that, I think a couple of You’re a Star rejects went over and finished last. So if I’ve cursed this, fair play, I’ve saved the country a fortune, so I’m happy with that.”

    7. You’re a charmer – well able to romance people

It’s no secret that Dustin the Turkey is a renowned ladies’ man, charming the pants off of practically every female TV personality both near and far.

If you’re able to charm your Tinder matches, this is one of the things you might have something in common with Dustin the Turkey.

    6. You love music – always ready to sing a song

Dustin is well known for his music career, helping jump-start the careers of people like Joe Dolan, Ronnie Drew, and Chris De Burgh.

As well as competing in Eurovision in 2008, Dustin also released six albums and had five singles reach number one on the Irish charts.

Is it any surprise we sent him to the Eurovision?

    5. You like to keep up with current affairs – the news is crucial

Despite all of Dustin’s messing, he always remains up to date with current affairs. So much in fact, that he spent a few years running his news show, Dustin’s Daily News on The Den.

If you like to keep informed about the goings-on of the world, then this is one of the things you might have something in common with Dustin the Turkey.

    4. People try to eat you at Christmas time – beware of December

Dustin was initially brought on to The Den by Zag, who won him as a consolation prize for coming last place in a golf tournament.

The gang had originally planned to stuff Dustin and eat him for their Christmas dinner. Still, they eventually became overly fond of Dustin’s antics and couldn’t go through with it.

    3. You’re a tradesman – a noble art

Your trade is one of the things you might have in common with Dustin the Turkey.

The Northside bird had many side jobs, including an illustrious music career, a taximan, and a chef.

Yet, despite all of his alternate careers during the years, he still maintained his job as a builder. Very well grounded, our Dustin.

    2. You’re a Manchester United fan – Ryan Giggs, Ryan Giggs, running down the wing

Dustin was often pictured wearing the latest Manchester United jerseys back in the 90s.

He was always ready to dismiss anyone who supported any other team. If you’re a die-hard Man United fan, this is one of the things you might have in common with Dustin the Turkey.

    1. You’re well able to stand up for yourself – say no to bullying

One of the things you might have in common with Dustin the Turkey is that you can stand up for yourself.

Dustin can always stand up for his rights and is well able to put people back in their place.

If you’re not afraid to stand up for yourself, then you probably learned from the master that is Dustin.
