5 devices to help you stay connected in Ireland

Due to the rural areas in Ireland, it can sometimes be very difficult to establish a secure connection.

5 devices to help you stay connected in Ireland.

We rely on technology so much that when we are without it, we experience a sense of vulnerability. Although it may seem like a life-or-death situation when your phone runs out of battery or your mobile data stops working, it’s often not that serious.

However, it can be extremely detrimental if you rely on it for navigation or safety. Here’s a list of the top five devices to help you stay connected in Ireland.

    5. Power bank – a real lifesaver

Of course, pack your suitcase and zip-lock your sandwiches, but also consider bringing an emergency tech kit.

Nothing gets your heart racing and blood pumping more than being hit with a low-battery notification on your smartphone.

For many people, their phone is their life. This is specifically the case when you are in a different country and find it impossible to navigate without google maps.

By packing a power bank, you can avoid the panic and charge your phone back up until you find a socket that you can use.

    4. Portable Wi-Fi hotspot – for when it’s hard to secure a connection

If you are a digital nomad and are travelling while also maintaining a full-time job, you should consider bringing a portable Wi-Fi hotspot along with you.

It can be hard to find a secure connection, especially if you are exploring the countryside, where mobile data problems are almost guaranteed when in a different country.

It can help with work, entertainment, or just to keep the kids quiet while you enjoy the scenery.

    3. Universal adaptor – it’s essential

Having a universal adaptor is absolutely essential when travelling. In Ireland, there are only three-pin sockets which are primarily used in this country and in Britain.

If you are travelling over from anywhere in the world other than Britain, then your tech devices will be incompatible. The best way to avoid this disaster is to invest in a universal adaptor, which gives you compatibility no matter where you end up.

These adaptors can be found in most electronic stores for a decent price. You can buy them in airports, but they are usually overpriced.

    2. Second mobile phone – a key backup

This can be a lifesaver, especially for individuals who are travelling alone.  Phones break and get lost quite regularly. It happens to everyone, which is why you should bring a backup with you, just in case.

Your second mobile phone doesn’t have to be top of the range or even a smartphone; it just needs to give you the ability to connect with other people.

    1.  Hard drive – you won’t regret bringing one

This is more specific to those who are working while they travel.  Constantly moving puts your personal belongings at risk of damage; the last thing you want is to lose any of your documents or files.

Whether it’s an SD card, flash drive or external hard drive, you will never regret grabbing one of these.

It is important to stay connected when exploring the country outside the big cities, as well as staying on top of any work you may be responsible for.

That’s why you should try your best to first prepare for the worst-case scenario. After that, you can enjoy the beautiful Emerald Isle.
