Jamie Dornan was recently pictured with the team at Doorsteps, a café he claims “kept him alive” during his school years.

County Down actor, famous for The Fall, Fifty Shades of Grey, Belfast and more, recently returned to one of his childhood favourite cafes, Doorsteps on the Lisburn Road.

In his article ‘Guide to Belfast’ for the Financial Times in 2022, Dornan described the famous café as “an institution” in Belfast.

In the article, he said, “Doorsteps has long been an institution (the clue is in the name) – it used to keep me and my mates alive”.

Doorsteps is a popular sandwich shop on the Lisburn Road in Belfast that has been in business for more than 30 years.

Staff at the sandwich shop took to social media to share their delight in one of their favourite customers coming into the shop.

An social media post reads, “Amazing to have our long time favourite customer Jamie Dornan in Doorsteps today

“Jamie mentioned us last year in his guide to Belfast for the Financial Times, he said Doorsteps’ kept me and my mates alive’ during his school years

“Grateful to have his continued support and do what we do best, make amazing sandwiches”.

In his 2022 article for the Financial Times, Dornan reprimanded London for having “the worst sandwiches in the world”.

He said, “They’re always really sparing – but in Belfast, we just ram them full so that you can’t get your mouth around them.

“Doorsteps has long been an institution (the clue is in the name) – it used to keep me and my mates alive”.

In the same article, he also gave praise to the Clements, Stormont Mugs, The Spaniard, The Cloth Ear, Muddlers Club, and many more.

Amy McGlinchey previously spoke to Belfast Live ahead of Doorsteps’ 30th anniversary, saying the team were “ecstatic” to be recognised on such a huge scale in Dornan’s Financial Times guide.

Amy said, “Being here as long as we are, the staff probably working in here now probably wouldn’t remember him coming in because he did when he was in school but for a big actor like that to compare our sandwiches to those in London, who you’d think would have big upscale offerings, was brilliant.

    “We were all bizz.”

Comments under their recent post about Dornan coming into the shop all sing the praises of the establishment with messages like, “Best sandwiches”, “Omg Doorsteps is the best”, and “Love doorsteps, love Jamie”.
