If you’ve grown up in Ireland, you’ll no doubt have a soft spot for Tayto – and it turns out money expert Martin Lewis would agree.

He’s normally giving us advice on how to better manage our finances. However, money expert Martin Lewis took a break from the money advice to rate the UK’s best crisps.
The Money Saving Expert brought in a group of taste-test volunteers to sample 44 different brands to reveal the ‘UK’s best Cheese N’ Onion crisps’.
Now, the results are in, as Martin Lewis reveals an iconic Irish brand to be in the UK’s top three Cheese N’ Onion crisps.
A beloved brand for generations – homegrown potatoes

As cliché as it is, if there’s one thing we know how to do right here in Ireland, it’s potatoes. And nothing proves that point quite as well as our iconic Tayto crisp brand.
Beloved among snackers from all across the island, they are perfect for all occasions, whether it’s a lunchbox snack or a sharing plate at a family party.
Now, Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis has ranked the Irish brand in the UK’s top three Cheese N’ Onion crisps. Thus confirming our suspicions that Tayto really is just a cut above the rest.
The winners – the ultimate Cheese N’ Onion crisp contest

Volunteer taste testers put 44 different crisp brands to the test to unveil the ultimate savoury snack preference. So, here were their winners.
Keogh’s Mature Irish Cheese and Onion took the top spot, another popular Irish crisp brand with over 200 years of heritage. We did say we know how to do potatoes.
A win for the dairy-free fans as Kettle Vegan Sheese and Red Onion claimed second place. Meanwhile, the refined Tayto Craft Vintage Irish Cheddar and Onion managed to scoop third place.
Pipers Lye Cross Cheddar and Onion, Savoursmith’s Somerset Cheddar and Shallot, Cathedral City Our Cheese and Onion, and Pringles Cheese and Onion were among other notable mentions.
Surprising results – what the experts said

Revealing the iconic Irish brand among the top three Cheese N’ Onion crisp brands, Martin Lewis said there were a few surprises.
“The big surprise was that a non-cheese ‘n’ onion crisp came second,” he said. “Several crisps were vegan by chance – though Kettle’s ‘Sheese & Red Onion’ was vegan by brand and design – and they smashed non-vegan rivals with an average score of 6.6/10 to 5.1/10.”
He continued, “Another surprise was that many of our testers were surprised at the end that they’d ranked their unrecognised pre-expected favourites poorly.”
