The Good Will Hunting actor spent lockdown in Ireland last year after the COVID-19 pandemic took hold during filming for a new movie.

Hollywood actor Matt Damon says he’s considering moving to Ireland from the US after spending lockdown in Dalkey last year.

Visiting pubs, meeting locals, and discovering Ireland’s hidden gems were all on the agenda during his time in Ireland. And he has since revealed that he can’t wait to come back.

We could think of worse places to be stuck in lockdown than the coastal Dublin suburb of Dalkey, which is where Damon stayed last year during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The world went into lockdown as the star was filming in Ireland for his upcoming movie, The Last Duel. Other crew members managed to get back to the States. Meanwhile, Damon decided to spend the next three months in Ireland.

Locals spotted the Hollywood star shopping at the local Supervalu and embracing life on the Emerald Isle.

Damon is only one of a long list of celebrities who have discovered the beauty of the Emerald Isle in recent months.

Most recently, Taylor Swift posted a photo to social media standing on Donegal’s stunning Portsalon Beach. The Folklore singer celebrated one year of her most recent album release on the Emerald Isle with actor boyfriend, Joe Alwyn.

Other stars making an appearance on Irish soil this year include Patrick Dempsey, Amy Adams, and Elizabeth Banks.

No, Matt Damon says he’s even considering moving to Ireland.

Speaking on Marc Macron’s WTF podcast this week, Matt Damon said he is considering moving to Ireland.

He said, “When we did the lockdown, we started the lockdown in Ireland because we were shooting this movie. We loved it there so much, and I was kind of in the back of my head, ‘I could move here. I could live here.’ It’s beautiful!”

Speaking on his time in Dalkey, he revealed, “It’s about 45 minutes outside Dublin, it’s this beautiful seaside town.

“I got very lucky. We were shooting this movie that’s going to come out later in the year called The Last Duel, and half of it we shot in France and half in Ireland.”

Matt Damon told Macron the story of how he got stuck in Ireland during lockdown last March.

He said, “We finished [shooting in France], and then the crew travelled to Ireland. Landed in Ireland and shut down. We stayed for three months because we got there, and we’d rented all of these houses in this town; it was about a 15-minute drive to the studio.

“So everybody, the actors and director Ridley Scott rented a place.

“Everybody left. We had a few people in our little group, and we were like, ‘Well, we’ve got all these houses for three months.’ So, we just moved into these houses and just kind of took it over and had just the best time.”

The trailer for The Last Duel was released last week, and the movie is due for release in Irish cinemas in October.
