Mother gave her two kids the same Irish name, and they’re twins!

Nope, this is not a joke. One mother has come under fire from a colleague after she named her twin boys the same Irish name.

When it comes to choosing a name for your baby, it can be tough, even harder when there are two of them! Irish names are common all over the world but have you ever loved a name so much that you would use it twice? For twins, no less?!

In December 2021, one Reddit user expressed disbelief when his colleague gave her twin boys the same name, just with a slight spelling difference for each.

One man on Reddit expressed concerned disbelief when he discovered that his colleague had given her twin boys the same Irish name – Sean.

The mother insists that the names are different since one is spelt ‘Sean’ and the other ‘Seen’. The Reddit user wrote, “When asked what she had named the boys (as up until this appearance she was undecided), she told me that she was naming them “Sean”.

“When I asked about the other baby, she said, “No, they are both Sean, one with an “A” and one with an “E”, so Sean and Seen”.

“This co-worker’s last name is also “Sean”. When I pointed this out she said, “Yes, like TomTom or Jay Jay”. I immediately and without thinking said, “That is the most idiotic thing I’ve heard, and it’s going to be so confusing”.

Apparently, this Reddit user’s harsh words received criticism from co-workers, outlining that it wasn’t their place to comment on other people’s choice of names.

However, while the mother said, “It’ll grow on you”, people in the comments of the Reddit post strongly agreed with the absurdity of the names.

One person said, “I’m an identical twin. Matching names is probably the cruellest thing you could do to a person.

“It’s not just confusing. It would keep the twins from developing identities outside their twin-ness.

“You know what happens to twins that can’t establish independent identities? At best they need years of family therapy to work through their relationship problems. At worst, they hate each other.”

What do you think? – Sean Sean, is it ok?

Is it ok that this mother gives her two kids the same Irish name, and they’re twins?!

One Reddit user described the names as “child abuse”! The original poster asked, “Am I the a***ole for saying that that is a terrible naming idea?”

What do you think? Do you think it’s leaning towards the cruel side that this mother gave her two kids the same Irish name? Or, they’re their kids, and they can name them whatever they want.

An update was revealed later that the couple, who live in Australia, took the criticism from the post on board and decided to change one of their kids’ names. However, they’re keeping Sean Sean because they like it.
