Voice actor goes viral after nailing several Irish accents

JP Wright posted the video to TikTok earlier this week, impressing his followers with his accurate portrayal of accents from all across Ireland.

An ‘American’ voice actor has gone viral after posting a video that shows him nailing several Irish accents.

We’re no stranger to actors butchering the Irish accent (looking at you, Tom Cruise and Gerard Butler). So, it’s a nice surprise when someone actually does a good job.

From Dublin to Northern Ireland, Cork to Donegal, we were well impressed by this US voice actor’s attempts at various Irish accents.

An accurate Irish accent ‒ we’d be fooled into thinking he was a native

J.P. Wright is a Professional Voice Actor and Voice Acting Coach with over 15 years of experience in voiceover and broadcast. Recently, he has grown a huge following on TikTok for his accent videos.

He has posted videos on everything from global accents to impersonations of celebrities, including David Attenborough.

However, the voice actor went viral after he posted a video nailing several Irish accents. The video has reached almost 300,000 views and over 45,000 likes.

Opening the video, Wright says, “Do you know there’s 25,000 different Irish accents?” We didn’t!

Taking it to the capital, he continues, “There’s two different accents in Dublin alone; there’s the northside”, which he then demonstrates.

“Then there’s the southside of Dublin”, of which he does an impressively accurate portrayal.

After presenting the Dublin accent, he moves west to Mullingar in the midlands of Ireland. Then he heads down south to County Cork, where, he says, “things get a bit higher”.

After that, he goes on to show off his impressive Galway accent, followed by County Donegal, before finishing in Northern Ireland.

All is not as it seems ‒ too good to be true?

Viewers were stunned at the voice actor from the United States nailing several Irish accents. TikTok users were quick to comment, praising Wright for his Irish accents.

One wrote, “I’m from Mullingar, and I don’t know how to feel”. Meanwhile, another social media user said, “Easily best American doing an Irish accent I’ve seen.”

A third commented saying, “If you’re not Irish, this is absurdly impressive”. Well, it turns out you might be on to something.

Wright is, in fact, not an American putting on an Irish accent. Rather, he hails from County Kildare and is actually an Irish man putting on an Irish accent.

Speaking to the Irish Independent, he said, “I can voice in over 30 different accents, but the New York accent is my favourite and my most popular.”

Well, we got our hopes up for a second there that an American could actually do a good Irish accent. But maybe, some things are just too good to be true!
