Daragh Curran, better known as the Guinness Guru, shocked fans recently when they noticed that he changed his social channel names from the Guinness Guru to regular old Daragh Curran.
As a result, the question was begged, is this the end of the Guinness Guru? Daragh recently took to his YouTube channel to address the change.
As he states in the video, “It’s time for a change, lads, simple as that”. Read on to find out more and what to expect.
The Guinness Guru – a self-proclaimed Guinness fanatic
The journey of the Guinness Guru began back in 2019. Someone claiming to be an expert on the Black Stuff? Well, that’s content people absolutely ate, or should we say drank, up.
Daragh would visit pubs all over the country, drinking a pint of Guinness and giving it a rating.
He then branched out into different series’ like Blind Taste Tests, the Cheap Beer Series, and eventually videos for specific cities and counties around Ireland and further afield, ranking the best spots for a pint of the Black Stuff.
His videos across social media garnered hundreds of thousands of views and likes, but in a video uploaded last night, 27 June, Daragh said that it is time for a change.
Is this the end of the Guru? – a move towards rebranding
While this might be the end of the Guinness Guru name, it’s not the end of Daragh Curran. At the start of the recently uploaded video, Daragh states that “It’s time for a change, lads, simple as that”.
He said, “It just feels like time to change things up a bit, shake things up a bit”, and that there are three main reasons for the decision to rebrand his page.
For his first reason, he says he is bored of Guinness content. He said, “I just think I’ve taken it as far as I can take it with Guinness”. He said that in his most recent pub ventures, he found himself not wanting to go into the next pub and film the video.
Daragh outlined that while unique videos and situations related to Guinness will continue, videos related to the best and worst pint of Guinness in a specific place will not.
Rebranding – avoiding being pigeonholed
The second reason Daragh gives for changing things up is simply because “the money is sh*t”. He said that despite being able to quit his day job of painting and decorating in 2021, he said, “You’re very limited when every piece of content you make has to revolve around Guinness”.
He continued by talking about a desire to get into radio and TV and that “the right move just feels like being under my own name. It’ll be a lot easier to get in the door”.
While he doesn’t know if this is the avenue he will pursue, he stresses that his number one goal is to keep his channel going and to keep posting on TikTok and Instagram, just as himself – Daragh Curran.
He says that points two and three were sort of rolled into one, but going forward; he will continue to do what he loves doing most – making videos.
His future content will be much less restrictive, with videos showcasing cities, where to eat, what to see, tips, hotels, hidden gems, and so much more. As he says, “I’m still figuring it out”.
