Colin Farrell is well on his way to undertaking the lead role in Danny Boyles’s upcoming new film, and it’s bound to be a good one.

Renowned Irish actor Colin Farrell is reportedly set to embark on the journey of a lifetime in Danny Boyles’s upcoming true story of Colin O’Brady and Captain Lous Rudds, titled Antarctica.

In what promises to be a thrilling and climatic cinematic experience, especially for adventure enthusiasts, Antarctica follows the journey of the two men’s audacious attempt to cross Antarctica unassisted, leading to a race to the finish line.

Here’s all you need to know about the upcoming film.

With the news that iconic director Danny Boyle is set to begin the production of his new movie Antarctica, there is plenty of speculation surrounding the identity of the lead roles and other featured actors.

While prestigious actors such as Jude Law, Cillian Murphy and Daniel Craig were considered for the role, word on the street is that our very own Colin Farrell could be the chosen one.

Reports suggest that Farrell is due to star alongside newcomer Austin Butler and that talks are in motion to confirm their roles in this gripping adventure film.

Colin Farrell is well known for his diverse performances in films like Phone Booth, In Bruges and most recently, The Banshees of Inisherin, so it seems fitting that an actor of his calibre would suit the role well.

If confirmed, Farrell will take on the role of British Polar Explore Captain Louis Rudd, who is in his 40s. At the same time, Austin Butler, fresh off an Oscar-nominated performance in Elvis, is a real contender to play Colin Brady.

The Danny Boyle film will tell the thrilling story of O’Brady, an American adventurer in his late 30s who sets off to become the first individual to conquer the ice-ridden continent unassisted, going head-to-head with Captain Rudd, also chasing the same dream.

The film promises to be yet another epic adventure film to grace our screens, and Danny Boyle fans eagerly await the storyline as two men race to break a world record, not without struggles, of course.

A synopsis from Production Weekly says, “O’Brady faced an ungodly windchill, the threat of unseen crevasses and utter isolation. In a head-to-head competition mirroring the race to the South Pole between Amundsen and Scott in 1911”.

Spoiler Alert: On 26 December 2018, Colin Brady broke world records by becoming the first individual to cross Antarctica after completing a 54-day expedition without support.

Dragging a 400-pound sledge, he traversed over 1496 km (930 miles), tackled windchill and made it past unseen crevasses, arriving two and a half days before Captain Rudd, gaining him the title ‘The Impossible First’.

Danny Boyle is no stranger to portraying incredible stories on screen, and he is known for his darker films such as Trainspotting, Shallow Grave and 28 Days Later.

His new venture, Antarctica, promises to be a nail-biting, edge-of-your-seat story, undoubtedly a hit with Danny Boyle fans and mountain adventure enthusiasts.

The anticipation is kicking in for now as everyone eagerly awaits the announcement of the final casting decisions.
