    Banshees of Inisherin named best Irish film to watch this year

    The multi-award-winning movie wowed viewers when it was first released back in 2022, and it still proves a firm favourite almost two years later.

    The Banshees of Inisherin, starring Irish icons Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, has been named as the best Irish film to watch this year.

    A new study, compiled by Betfair Casino, ranked the top Irish movies to unveil which ones are the best to watch from the comfort of your home.

    With plenty of worthy competition, The Banshees of Inisherin came out on top to be named the best Irish film to watch this year. So, if you haven’t seen it yet, now is the perfect time!

    Betfair Casino compiled the list of best Irish films that you can watch from the comfort of your home in 2024. By taking into account the popularity of various Irish films, they were able to come up with the ultimate ranking.

    Taking statistics from various websites, including IMDb, Rating Graph, Rotten Tomatoes, and Metacritic, they were able to offer each film a unique index score. According to the ranking, the lower overall index score, the higher the ranking for the film.

    If you haven’t already seen it yet, then now is the perfect time to cosy up on the sofa with a big bag of popcorn to watch The Banshees of Inisherin.

    Directed by Martin McDonagh and starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, the film is a story of friendship and loss set on a remote island off the coast of Ireland. Simple yet impactful and funny yet thought-provoking, the film truly is a one of a kind.

    Having received nine Oscar nominations and winning three Golden Globe awards and four BAFTA Awards following its release in 2022, it should really come as no surprise that The Banshees of Inisherin was named the best Irish film to watch this year.

    After you’ve watched The Banshees of Inisherin, you can begin to make your way down the list of best Irish films to watch this year. Looks like our Friday nights will be occupied for the next while!

    Ranking in second place is The Commitments, a beloved 1991 musical comedy-drama focusing on the formation of a fictional Dublin soul band. A great choice if you want to sing your heart out!

    The 2016 dystopian drama The Lobster took third place, followed by another Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell classic, In Bruges, in fourth.

    Black comedy Intermission claimed fifth place alongside Breakfast on Pluto, two iconic Cillian Murphy roles. Then, romantic comedy The Matchmaker ranked alongside Albert Nobb to claim joint sixth spot.

    For those who want to get all up in their feels, rom-com Leap Year claimed seventh, followed by P.S. I Love You in eighth. So, you’ll have plenty of great films to choose from over the next two months.
