    Documentary about Irish boys who ran away to NYC premieres on RTÉ

    The award-winning short film, which was first released in 2021, will premiere on Irish TV tonight.

    The award-winning documentary about two Irish boys who ran away to NYC premieres on RTÉ tonight.

    Nothing to Declare tells the story of Dublin schoolboys Keith Byrne and Noel Murray, who snuck onto a flight for New York City.

    The 30-minute documentary was first released in 2021 and went on to win awards at the Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) and Galway Film Fleadh.

    A fascinating tale ‒ how they got from Ireland to New York

    The fascinating documentary tells the story of two Irish boys who ran away to NYC by sneaking onto a ferry bound for Holyhead.

    Set in 1985, Keith Byrne and Noel Murray, aged just ten and 13, came up with an elaborate plan to get to New York City to meet their hero, B.A. Baracus of The A-Team.

    Entitled Nothing to Declare, the short film shows how the two young boys managed to fool travel authorities into allowing them to board a flight to America.

    Produced by Mixed Bag Media Ltd and directed by Garret Daly, Nothing to Declare has received much praise from those in the industry.

    Following its release, the short film won several awards, including Best Documentary at the 2021 Richard Harris Film Festival. The documentary also claimed the award for Best Short Film from the 2022 Irish Film and Television Academy.

    Nothing to Declare also won at the Irish Film Festa in Rome, the Mayo International Film Festival, and the Galway Film Fleadh. So, it’s safe to say that its premiere on Irish television tonight is highly anticipated among Irish film fans.

    A remarkable story ‒ hard to believe

    The documentary tells the story of two Irish boys who ran away to NYC.

    The 30-minute documentary takes viewers on a wild ride as we follow the story of the two Irish boys who ran away to NYC.

    First, we see how they managed to sneak onto a ferry bound for Holyhead before boarding a train to London. Once they arrive in London, the boys head for Heathrow Airport and follow a stranger onto an Air India flight headed for New York City.

    The boys then manage to convince the airline staff to let them board the plane by explaining that their parents were already onboard. However, their journey comes to an end upon their arrival in New York when they ask a policeman at the airport for “the way into town”.

    36 years on from their epic adventure, Keith and Noel come together to recount their story that made headlines around the world.

    Now, Irish audiences can get their first glimpse at this tale as Nothing to Declare premieres on RTÉ One tonight at 10:30 pm.
