The Late Late Show interview, which aired on Friday, 24 May, was set to be exciting, with plenty of fun, entertainment, and captivating interviews, but what was revealed by the Irish actor left the population gobsmacked – and betrayed.

Domhnall Gleeson, son of actor Brendan Gleeson, has made a name for himself over the years, having risen to fame playing the role of Bill Weasley in the Harry Potter film franchise.

Many loyal, die-hard fans would previously have said they knew everything they could know about the talented actor, yet Friday night’s interview left many feeling utterly betrayed and offended.

Sat opposite The Late Late Show host Patrick Kielty, Gleeson chatted about his role in the popular TV show Alice & Jack, among other exciting ventures in the works. However, what was about to be revealed was something the star never let slip in in previous interviews.

When asked how he stays in shape, the actor chatted about his rigorous workout routine, in which he expressed his goals to one day be as ripped as Hugh Jackman and his experimentation with the carnivore diet, which has been “working wonders”.

Patrick then prompted the actor to give his best secrets for keeping his lustrous locks in the best condition.

When describing his all-natural hair products, he explained that he makes sure only to use all-natural hair dye, leaving the host confused.

Realising he had just spilt the beans about dying his hair, Gleeson’s facial expression was one the nation would never forget, leaving him with no option but to explain.

As Patrick Kielty sat back in his seat looking very confused, he prompted the Irish actor to explain why on earth he dyes his hair: “So, I’m sure the public would love to know why on earth you are dying your hair. You are a natural redhead, though?”.

Domhnall responded with a bright red face, “I’ve kept this secret for years, but I am actually naturally dark-haired”.

At this moment, the audience gasped, prompting Kielty to ask more questions, which Gleeson seemed awkward answering.

He told the nation live on air, “It all started when I auditioned for the Weasley role, and they refused me for not being a ginger”, adding, “I instantly went back home, dyed my hair, and somehow got a second audition under an alias”.

The actor revealed that it wasn’t just the role that motivated him to stick with being a ginger. “When I got the part, I was delighted, but it wasn’t just that; everyone treated me differently, and I loved it”.

But it didn’t stop there; when Kielty tried to interrupt, acknowledging an emotional Gleeson welling up, it was apparent that the actor had more to tell the public.

“They say gingers have more fun, and I realised this to be true as soon as I changed my image. I started dying my eyebrows and my beard and morphed into a more Irish-looking version of myself – it was fantastic”.

The chat continued so long that there was no time to interview other guests on the lineup, leaving Kielty to cut Gleeson off when time ran out.

In one of the most awkward interviews ever seen on live TV in Ireland, and perhaps Europe, Gleeson revealed that he had been lying about his image all these years, much to the dismay of viewers and fans.

It was clear to see from social media posts that the nation was not happy with the news that they had been lied to and that their favourite Irish redhead was, in fact, a phoney.

One fan tweeted, “I’ll never look at him the same way again, even though I am a sucker for a ginger”. While another tweeted, “Jaysus, that must take some effort. I applaud him for that, but lying about it all is just unforgivable”.

What’s more is, a photo of the ‘real’ Domhnall Gleeson has been circulating, leaving the public stunned at what the actor looks like with dark hair.

The image that shows a young Gleeson fishing with his dad in what is thought to be a location in County Kerry shows the teenager with jet-black hair, black bushy eyebrows, and a few emerging black beard hairs.

The comments below the photo have reached a staggering 2.3 million, and it is thought that Gleeson has deleted his social media accounts until things blow over.

But can the nation ever forgive him? We’ll have to wait and see!
