Electric and hybrid dominate the charts, but the age-old diesel and petrol types still top the rankings of Ireland’s most popular cars in 2022 so far.

The most popular cars on the Emerald Isle in 2022 based on views have been released. There is a rise in electric and hybrid vehicles competing with the still-popular petrol and diesel type cars.

Carzone, who extracted the data from their platforms this year, determined the most searched cars for the first quarter of this year, alongside the most viewed electrical models of the first four months, followed by the most popular hybrid models.

If you want to discover Ireland’s most popular cars in 2020 so far, read on.

Taking the top spot for the most popular car in Ireland in 2022 so far was the Volkswagen Golf, which has been the most viewed car on Carzone since 2016, boasting a six-year reign.

In second and third place were the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class cars. Fourth is the BMW 3 Series, and completing the top five is the stunning Audi A6.

In sixth is the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, followed by the Ford Focus in seventh. In eighth is the Hyundai Tucson, then another BMW entry with their X5 series car.

The list is closed with the Audi A4, the brand’s second on the list of Ireland’s most popular cars.

What is significant about the charts, in the eyes of Carzone, is that six out of the ten on this list were electric cars, and another was hybrid. This reflects the changing dynamics of the car market and the direction it is heading in.

Carzone’s data has shown that electric and hybrid vehicles are the most popular choice for Irish drivers who want to buy a new car this year.

This is reinforced by Carzone research, which illustrated that 49% of those who want to change their car in the next year want to buy an electric or hybrid car.

The most viewed electric models so far this year have been the Hyundai Ioniq, followed by the Audi e-tron, then the Nissan Leaf, and the Tesla Model 3, from Bitcoin mogul Elon Musk.

BMW top the charts for the most viewed hybrid models with three out of the top five, joined by the Toyota Corolla and RAV4.

Speaking on the outcome of the research, Carzone’s Audience Manager, Karl Connolly, said, “So far this year, we have seen several new models introduced to the market.

“But our data shows that car buyers are sticking to what they know when it comes to searching a car purchase”.

If you are looking to buy a new car in 2022, which model are you going for? And will it be diesel, or will you switch to an electric or hybrid version? You can see the full results here.
