Slated for an April 2024 filming start, the hit series Wednesday, starring Jenna Ortega, will be filmed in Ireland.

‘Wednesday’ Season 2 will be filmed in Ireland.

Irish fans of the hit Netflix series Wednesday will be delighted to learn that the second series of the hit show will be filmed in Ireland in 2024.

Filming for season 1 took place entirely in Romania. As a result, many locations used in the show have become popular tourist spots since.

However, the show will head to greener pastures on the Emerald Isle for its highly anticipated second season.

The first season of the show remains Netflix’s most successful English-language series of all time.

Wednesday Season 1 aired on Netflix in 2022 and became an instant hit all over the world resulting in the show becoming Netflix’s most successful English-language series of all time.

So, the first season was filmed in Romania between September 2021 and March 2022, airing on Netflix in November 2022.

It followed Wednesday’s wild adventures at Nevermore Academy, an academic institute that nurtures “outcasts, freaks and monsters”.

While attending the school, Wednesday navigates her ever-growing psychic ability, all while thwarting a murdering spree and solving a mystery involving her parents, Morticia and Gomez Addams, 25 years ago.

Now that both the writers’ and actors’ strikes have ended, writing and pre-production for Wednesday and many other highly anticipated shows can resume.

In a Deadline exclusive, it has been revealed that the second series of the hit show will take to Irish soil for filming, which is touted to begin in April 2024.

Other reports claimed that almost from the moment the first season began filming, due to logistical challenges, the production team was already debating a different shoot location for the second season.

The Addams Family – an iconic cartoon with many adaptations

Wednesday is an adaptation of American cartoonist Charles Addam’s fictional family – the Addams Family. The famous family consists of mother and father Morticia and Gomez, children Wednesday and Pugsley, and as well as Uncle Fester, Lurch, and Thing.

The family originally appeared in several stand-alone comics. Around half of them were published in The New Yorker between 1938 and their creator’s death in 1988.

Thus, ever since, the family have been adapted into books, on screen, in video games, and more.

Perhaps the most notorious of which is The Addams Family movie of 1991, starring Anjelica Huston as Morticia Addams, Raul Julia as Gomez, Christopher Lloyd as Uncle Fester, and Christina Ricci as Wednesday Addams, to name a few.

Updates on filming locations to come as we learn more. So, Irish fans, be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Jenna Ortega in the spring of 2024.
