There is hope for another huge year of success at the Oscars for Irish talent.

Irish stars already tipped to dominate Oscars 2024.

Following 2023’s record number of Oscar nominations for Irish actors and those behind the scenes, the 2024 edition of the prestigious awards ceremony could be even bigger.

This comes as Hollywood bible Variety releases a highly-anticipated list of early Oscars predictions in every category.

Cillian Murphy, Eve Hewson, and Andrew Scott are among some of the Irish names on a long list of movie stars tipped for nominations.

Plus, previously nominated actors Paul Mescal, Saoirse Ronan, and Barry Keoghan are also among those making Variety’s early predictions list.

First off, Cillian Murphy is tipped to nab a nomination for one of the most sought-after awards, Actor in a Leading Role, for his role in Oppenheimer, which, along with Barbie, broke several box-office records.

In an article released earlier in the month, Variety said Andrew Scott’s role in All of Us Strangers alongside Paul Mescal made him ‘an Oscar-Worthy Leading Man’.

Next up is Eve Hewson, who recently starred in John Carney’s musical-comedy Flora and Son alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Jack Reynor.

In the movie, Hewson sings and plays guitar as a way to connect with her character’s son. The song ‘High Life’ from the film, composed by John Carney, Gary Clark and Hewson, will be submitted for Best Original Song at the upcoming star-studded event.

Also among Irish faces set for nominations at the 2024 Oscars are Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal for their roles in Foe, a dystopian sci-fi set on a Midwestern farm in 2065.

Next, Barry Keoghan, who received his first-ever Oscar nomination for his role in The Banshees of Inisherin last year, features in a ‘Top-Tier Possibilities’ list for his role in psychological thriller Saltburn, which will be released later in 2023.

You will also find Michael Fassbender further down an ‘Also in Contention’ list for his role in the new film The Killer.

Previous Oscar nominee Jessie Buckley is also said to be a contender for a nomination for her role in Fingernails, which will be released in November this year.

For Best Picture, Variety predicts the nominees to include American Fiction, Barbie, Killers of the Flower Moon, Oppenheimer, and Past Lives, to name a few.

In terms of Best Director, the predictions include Jonathan Glazer for The Zone of Interest, Cord Jefferson for American Fiction, Yorgos Lanthimos for Poor Things, and Christopher Nolan for Oppenheimer.

For Actress in a Leading Role, the predicted nominees include Emily Blunt for Oppenheimer, America Ferrera for Barbie and Julianne Moore for May December.
