A smick is a term used in Belfast to describe what others might call a ‘chav’. Let’s look at ten signs that you might be one.

10 signs you’re smicked out to the back teeth.

Belfast is full of smicks. They come in all different shapes and sizes, but there are a few things every single smick out there has in common.

If you relate to a handful of these ten signs, there’s a good chance you’re smicked out to the back teeth. Read on to find out.

    Table of Contents−
    • A smick is a term used in Belfast to describe what others might call a ‘chav’. Let’s look at ten signs that you might be one.

      • 6. Your car is souped up to the max – loud, low, and lying down
      • 5. You have a tattoo of your favourite football team – a couple spring to mind
      • 4. You only wear tracksuits – a smick exclusive
      • 3. You only drink at your local – you’re not venturing into the town
      • 2. You sat at the back of the bus in school – the back of the bus is in a huff
      • 1. You wear a coin ring – stylish and smicked out

    10. Bending a new hat – the way it comes isn’t smicked out enough

If you bend the life out of a new cap, there’s a good chance you’re smicked out to the back teeth. When you buy a new cap, it’s in tip-top shape – stiff and probably quite round.

Well, for smicks, that just won’t do. You need to squeeze the life out of the brim of the hat, and if you don’t, you’re not smicked out.

    9. You have a thick Belfast accent – your accent is smicked out to the back teeth

If you have a really strong Belfast accent, chances are you might be a smick. And, even if you don’t consider yourself one, people definitely say you sound like one.

There will be certain words you say that other people in the city say differently. Think wash, posh, crash, that kind of thing. You’re saying them out loud now, aren’t you?

    7. You call trainers guddies – brand new pair of guddies

Calling trainers guddies is one of the signs you're smicked out to the back teeth.

If you call what the Americans would call ‘sneakers’ guddies, then you’re definitely smicked out to the back teeth.

What’s more, your guddies absolutely have to have huge bubbles in them to make you a proper Belfast smick. This is one of the Belfast slang words only locals understand. “Your guddies are scrappers”, anyone?

    6. Your car is souped up to the max – loud, low, and lying down

If your car has been modified to have a massive, loud engine, then you’re probably smicked out to the back teeth.

Plus, if your car sits so low to the ground you have to go 1 MPH over speedbumps, well, that’s not helping your case either.

Bonus points if your car has spoilers, if you drive a Corsa VXR, or if you have your seat so far down you’re basically lying down while you’re driving. How many points are you on so far?

    5. You have a tattoo of your favourite football team – a couple spring to mind

Having a tattoo of your favourite football club is one of the signs you're smicked out to the back teeth.

If you have a massive tattoo of your favourite football team on your arm, leg, or basically anywhere on your body, then let’s face it, you are a smick.

If you’ve gone so far as to get your team tattooed on your body, then you’re definitely smicked out, no question.

    4. You only wear tracksuits – a smick exclusive

You're a smick if you only wear tracksuits.

One of the easiest ways to spot a smick is if they’re wearing tracksuits. While some people wear tracksuits around the house for comfort or for sports, smicks have a tracksuit for every occasion.

You have your everyday tracksuit, your christening tracksuit, your football tracksuit and more. If you’re smicked out, we can bet you have a wardrobe brimming with different tracksuits. Perhaps even one for every day of the week.

    3. You only drink at your local – you’re not venturing into the town

Only drinking at your local is one of the signs you're smicked out to the back teeth.

If you’re smicked out to the back teeth, you probably don’t ever venture into the city centre; you’d rather stick to your local bar.

If you do head into town for a few, it’ll be for a very special occasion. Otherwise, it’s the pub down the road that you can easily stumble to and from.

    2. You sat at the back of the bus in school – the back of the bus is in a huff

It goes without saying that the smicks sat at the back of the bus in school. You probably started sitting at the back of the bus in primary school and carried it through to secondary school. It was just how things went!

    1. You wear a coin ring – stylish and smicked out

Last but not least on our list of ten signs that you’re smicked out to the back teeth is that you wear a coin ring.

Whether it’s a family heirloom or you just thought they were cool, so you asked for one for Christmas, coin rings are smicked out.

If you have one, it might mean that your dad, your uncles, your granda, and most of the men in your family have one, too.

Well, there you have it. Ten signs that you’re smicked out to the back teeth. How many do you relate to, and just how smicked out are you?
