There are a few things that cause excitement among the Irish. A grand stretch in the evening, a well-poured pint of Guinness, and a sporting win for their county.

Well, Galway fans had plenty to celebrate at the weekend as the team proved victorious over Dublin to progress to the All-Ireland SFC semi-finals.

While Taylor Swift was wooing fans over at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday night, the Galway team were keeping football fans on the edge of their seats in Croke Park.

Proving victorious, the Connacht team managed a four-point half-time deficit to win 0-17 to 0-16. The victory ended Dublin’s hope of a tenth championship in the last 13 years, while progressing Galway closer to their first title since 2001.

Well, we can see how it’s a pretty exciting moment for the western county. And one commentator’s hilarious reaction to the Galway win pretty much sums it up.

“Shake it off at Croke Park” – a big day for the City of Tribes

Galway Bay FM commentator Ollie Turner couldn’t contain his excitement as the game came to a close with Galway in the lead.

“Galway have won!” he exclaimed. “It’s the greatest day that Galway football has seen in over two decades.

“And every man, woman and child stands to applaud Padraic Joyce and his gallant Galway men. Sweet mother of Jesus, they have pulled off the unthinkable.

“Forget about Taylor Swift, ‘shake it off’ at the Aviva. Come over here to Croke Park because you’re witnessing the west awake. Gaillimh abú!”
