Irish chippies are iconic in Ireland, and here is what makes them so popular.

The 10 best things you can get in an Irish chippy, ranked.

There is no doubt that every Irish person has a favourite dish they just crave from the local chippy, and there are certain things that are unique to Ireland which Irish people struggle to get abroad.

There is something so comforting about the strong waft of vinegar and the community aspect of your neighbourhood Irish chippy. Nothing beats getting your hands on one of their homemade mouthwatering meals.

So, with that said, here are the ten best things you can get in an Irish chippy ranked.

    10. Chip baguette – the best combination

Chipper chips are a culinary marvel, and not one person in Ireland will deny this. We have grown up worshipping these bites of deliciousness, so if we have the chance to get them on a fresh baguette, we won’t pass up the opportunity.

The chip baguette makes a fantastic on-the-go snack or quick lunch, which we all love.

    9. Breakfast burger – the rival of the breakfast roll

We’ve all heard of the breakfast roll, but one of the best things you can get in an Irish chippy is a breakfast burger with all the usual suspects. You can look forward to a beef burger topped with rashers, hash browns, an egg, and dollops of ketchup. The perfect Irish snack for a hangover!

    8. Curry chips – it’s all about the Irish curry sauce

While many may assume that curry chips can be replicated anywhere in the world, we would have to disagree strongly: nothing compares to Irish curry sauce from the chipper.

One of the heartiest things you can get in an Irish chippy is a curry chip, which will put a smile on anyone’s face.

    7. Salad burger – not your average burger

The salad burger is one of the most popular things to order at the chipper, and you can choose between a quarter pounder or a half pounder, which comes with all the trimmings, including loads of tomato ketchup-soaked onions and lots of homemade burger sauce, all within a fluffy soft bun.

    6. Taco chips – an extraordinary invention

If there is one dish that separates Irish chippers from any other takeaway in the world, it has to be taco chips, which are widely available no matter where in the country you go. Every Irish chippy serves up this heavenly meal combining mince, chips, taco sauce, cheese, and many spices. Yum!

    5. Kebab – a variety of options

Irish chippers are known for serving everything from battered fish and chicken to curry chips and pizzas, so of course, this is the place to get your hands on a delicious kebab with all the trimmings.

You can choose from a doner kebab, chicken fillet kebab, a veggie kebab, or even a kebab tray served on a base of chips.

    4. Battered sausage and chips – we make the best

One of the best things you can get in an Irish chippy is a battered sausage, which can be ordered alone or as a meal with chips. Battered sausages are hard to find in other countries, and even if you do, they will never beat the Irish version; after all, we produce pretty amazing sausages.

Admittedly, our Scottish cousins make a good battered sausage – one of several things we have in common.

    3. Snack box – an iconic chipper meal

Irish people bow to the snack box, made up of deliciously crispy coated chicken combined with classic chips, packed into a box that is generally so full it doesn’t close properly – and we love this! The snack box is a firm favourite amongst Irish people and never lacks in flavour.

    2. Fish and chips – a proudly made Irish dish

Hands down, Ireland has the best fish and chips in the world, and that is for many reasons. We have a plentiful supply of fresh fish and years of experience cooking it to perfection.

Irish chippers take great pride in preparing it, so it never fails to win people over. This is one of the most popular choices.

    1. Salt and vinegar-soaked chips – the best snack ever

While many of these dishes come with chips, we cannot list the best things you can get in an Irish chippy without mentioning a bag of chips soaked in vinegar and sprinkled in salt.

These succulent chips have been around for years, and nothing beats a classic bag of chips any time of the day in Ireland. It’s one of the best ways to cook potatoes, after all!

So, we are sure you are already on your way to the local chipper, but which one will you order first, now that you’ve checked out the best things you can get in an Irish chippy?
