It’s no surprise or secret that the Irish all over the world are bursting with pride as Cillian Murphy was recently the first Irish-born actor to receive the Oscar for Best Actor.

As a result, the world and the internet have become very creative in celebrating his highly-anticipated victory.

One such company is Lidl. Lidl is giving away €5 discount to anyone in Ireland named Cillian. Better yet, if your name is Cillian Murphy, you’ll receive a €50 voucher.

The 96th Academy Awards were held on Sunday, 10 March, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles.

Stars from around the world gathered to hear which of the previous years’ best movies were destined for victory.

Cillian Murphy’s lead performance in Oppenheimer as J. Robert Oppenheimer bagged him one of the most prestigious awards of the night, Best Actor. As a result, he became the first Irish-born actor to receive the accolade.

Daniel Day-Lewis won the award for Best Actor three times for My Left Foot (1989), There Will Be Blood (2007), and Lincoln (2012). The actor’s father was Irish, but Lewis himself was born and raised in London.

In his Oscar speech, he said, “I’m a very proud Irishman standing here tonight”, ending his speech with a resounding thank you in the Irish language, “Go raibh míle maith agat”.

Cillian Murphy has starred in some of the most iconic roles in TV and cinema over the years. Yet, with his incredible celebrity status, he has managed to maintain an uncommon level of normalcy in his life.

People absolutely love him, and it’s because he genuinely seems like he couldn’t care one way or the other about fame and fortune. Rather, he is one of the rare A-list celebrities who is in it purely for the love of the craft.

He has become an internet sensation many times, mostly due to looking confused or completely unbothered in interviews.
