Derry Girls fans, listen up! Next week’s episode of the hit Channel 4 sitcom might just be the one we’ve all been waiting for.

As if season three hasn’t blown us all away already, next week’s episode of Derry Girls is set to be the biggest and best yet.

According to inside sources, a special Ma Mary and Aunt Sarah flashback episode has been confirmed for next week.

The adults normally provide some witty one-liners and context that coincides with the story of the main gang. So, we are excited for two of our favourites to take centre stage next week.

The much-anticipated third and final season of Derry Girls hit our screens at the beginning of April.

Since then, people across Ireland and further afield have been glued to their TV screens every Tuesday for the next snippet of the hilarious sitcom.

Next week’s episode is set to air on 10 May. It will be the penultimate episode of this season, and we have just found out that we’re in for a treat.

According to sources, next week’s episode will shift us back in time; a Ma Mary and Aunt Sarah flashback episode has been confirmed for next week.

We love following the antics of Erin and the gang. However, the humour among the grown-ups adds that extra layer to the show, making it the hilarious watch that it is.

Episode five of season three, entitled ‘The Reunion’, is due to air next Tuesday, 10 May.

According to the Google synopsis, the episode will see “Mary and Aunt Sarah prepare for the highly anticipated Class of ‘77 School Reunion.”

Taking the adults back to school, the synopsis hints that we’ll get a glimpse into what the pair were like as teenagers. We can only imagine they were up to all kinds of mischief!

The synopsis continues, “It seems like only yesterday that their own Wee Gang were beyond excited about the leavers’ party.”

Delving into a tough time in Derry’s history – the height of the Troubles

At the surface, Derry Girls is a jovial show about growing up as a Northern Irish teen in the ‘90s. However, there has always been an undercurrent of trouble with news snippets and comments made by characters.

The years during which the show is set are some that saw huge moves towards peace in Northern Ireland. However, the Ma Mary and Aunt Sarah flashback episode next week will plunge viewers right back to the height of the Troubles.

Speaking to Digital Spy, creator Lisa McGee said episode five would focus on the “horrific” times the two women grew up in.

She said, “In Northern Ireland, you handle it with humour, and you just crack on. I think for the parents’ generation, it was a war zone.

“It was horrific what they went through, and we just didn’t appreciate it.”
