The late Irish musician Sinead O’Connor has recently been honoured by being nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for 2024.

Sinéad O'Connor nominated to join Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Sinead O’Connor has been nominated to join the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame alongside fourteen other very impressive nominees, such as Oasis, Cher and Mariah Carey, to name but a few.

O’Connor was one of 15 nominated acts; these will eventually be further narrowed down through a public vote and the votes of 1,000 industry experts to decide who gets the honour of being recorded in the illustrious Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a famous museum and hall of fame located in downtown Cleveland, Ohio, United States.

The museum is dedicated to documenting everything related to the history of rock music and the respective artists and notable figures who have influenced the industry over the decades.

According to the rules, artists officially become eligible for a potential induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame after 25 years since the release of their first record.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame currently consists of iconic artists like Peter Gabriel, Marvin Gaye, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, and more.

Sinéad O’Connor was a well-known and much-loved Irish singer and activist. She sadly died last year aged just 56 of natural causes in her home in London. She first experienced mainstream success in 1985 thanks to her hit song ‘Nothing Compares To U’.

Throughout her career, she earned an impressive eight Grammy Award nominations. This includes a win in 1991 for Best Alternative Album with ‘I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got’.

At the recent Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, Annie Lennox paid tribute to Sinead O’Connor by singing a cover of ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’.

Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2024 – 15 acts nominated this year

When speaking about this year’s nominees, John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, said, “This remarkable list of Nominees reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honours and celebrates”.

Including Ozzy Osborne amongst this year’s nominees may raise a few eyebrows and confused looks. This is because he is technically already in the Hall of Fame thanks to his musical work with the band Black Sabbath. However, he is now a nominee for his solo career this time.

The complete list of the nominees for 2024 is as follows:

    • Mariah Carey
    • Mary J. Blige
    • Sade
    • Cher
    • Oasis
    • Lenny Kravitz
    • Kool & the Gang
    • Peter Frampton
    • Foreigner
    • Jane’s Addiction
    • Dave Matthews Band
    • Sinéad O’Connor
    • Ozzy Osborne
    • Eric B. & Rakim
    • A Tribe Called Quest

For ten of the 15 nominees, including O’Connor, this will be a special occasion as it marks the first time they are officially on the ballot. Check out the full list and more here.
