The four-year-old Guinness-drinking pony has been named the mayor of the town of Cockington in Devon.

A Guinness-drinking pony named Patrick has been elected town mayor of Cockington in Devon, England.

Patrick the Pony was born on St Patrick’s Day and is often seen enjoying a pint of the black stuff in the village’s local pub.

Now the pony, who has stolen the hearts of the local townspeople, has been elected as the next mayor. Guinness for all!

Patrick won the hearts of the town during the pandemic. During this period, his owner Kirk Petrakis took him to the local pub to raise the spirits of those who were struggling with their mental health.

According to the New York Post, Patrick has become a much-loved guest at his local, The Drum Inn. He gained such celebrity status in the local area that he was even given his own corner reserved especially for him.

Paying tribute to his Irish name and birthdate, Patrick is reportedly a huge fan of a pint of the black stuff. Now, having proven such a popular figure, the Guinness-drinking pony named Patrick has been elected town mayor.

The miniature Shetland pony has worked hard as a therapy companion. Over the past two years, he has spent time in hospitals, mental health wards, and specialised schools.

Following the death of Cockington’s previous mayor, Don Mills, in 2019, locals signed a petition that Patrick should be next to take on the job.

According to reports, over 200 people have signed a petition stating that the Guinness-drinking pony named Patrick should be elected town mayor.

He has even taken part in various networking events with local politicians and MPs. So, there’s no denying Patrick has been grafting hard to become the next mayor of the Devon town.

Writing on the petition, Petrakis stated, “We believe Patrick would be a brilliant Pony Mayor for Cockington, for being non-judgemental and genuinely caring and supportive to all.”

The townspeople agreed, and Patrick has now been appointed the ‘unofficial mayor’ of Cockington. Believe it or not, he even has his very own office!

Perhaps the most hard-working pony in England, Patrick is also the mascot for The War Horse Memorial. Proud of this achievement, he displays the charity’s Purple Poppy emblem in his office.

He is also the official mascot for the Devon Recovery Learning Community. This charity works with the NHS to support people in the local area with mental health and recovery.

If you want to read more about Patrick’s adventures for yourself, you can.

The Adventures of Patrick the Pony: The Ten Ducklings is a children’s book written by Hannah, Kirk, and Sophia Petrakis. It tells a beautiful tale inspired by the hard-working pony.
