Furniture and crockery from the film will be up for auction this month. This comes as part of the Irish Vernacular auction at Adam’s Auctioneers in Dublin this month.

Pieces from the film are among the 18 lots in the Irish Vernacular auction of traditional Irish furniture, paintings, and collectables.

So, members of the public and collectors alike will have the opportunity to own their own pieces from the famous movie production.

Starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, The Banshees of Inisherin is a dark but hilarious tragicomedy. The film takes place on a remote Irish island in the early 20th century.

The movie tells the story of a man who chooses to end his friendship with his best friend. Thus, this causes a series of dark yet comical events to occur.

Pieces from the film that are up for auction include a sizeable 19th-century pine dresser. This item has a shelf top above an open compartment base and has an estimated worth of €3,000.

Plus, there is also a green-painted pine settle press up for auction. This piece transforms from a two-door cupboard into a double bed and has a value of €1,500.

According to Adam’s Auctioneers, “Irish vernacular furniture began emerging out of the rural Irish home in the eighteenth century. Each piece was simple and functional inform, yet unique in design.

“Making use of materials that were affordable and available to the everyday Irish person, it was a non-specialized craft accessible to those without formal training, such as local craftsmen who used traditional techniques and locally sourced materials”.

This also includes “old furniture and ‘found’ timbers like bogwood or driftwood; it was upcycling in its earliest form, and serves as a reminder of the importance of craftsmanship in Irish culture”.

Speaking about how they came to possess the props to enter the auction, James O’Halloran, managing director of Adam’s Auctioneers, said, “The furniture came into our hands by a person who was consigned by the film’s production company to procure them.

“That person has now decided to sell them on”. He added, “There are some fine pieces in the collection which were seen in the film, and allow a chance for collectors and members of the public who loved ‘The Banshees’ to get their hands on.

“Featured on the big screen is a 19th-century painted pine settle bed. This piece, lot 135, of furniture was previously exhibited at Bennettsbridge Folk Museum in Kilkenny before appearing in ‘The Banshees,’ which has an estimate of €1,200”.

Sp, he auction will take place on Wednesday, 12 April, at 11 am. There will also be viewings on Friday, 7 April, Saturday, 8 April, and Tuesday, 11 April.
