Guinness named most popular beer in America in recent survey

Guinness is one of the most popular beers in the world, and a recent survey has confirmed that Americans would choose a pint of the black stuff over other brands any day.

Guinness named most popular beer in America in recent survey.

A recent survey by YouGov has shown that Guinness has taken the top spot as being the most favoured beer when put against its contenders, dethroning the once-popular Bud Light.

In a stunning turn of events, the delicious Irish stout ranked ahead of some of the most well-known brands in the world, proving that Guinness is becoming increasingly popular in the States.

    Here’s the story.

Despite what you might think, the YouGov survey has proved that Americans would choose a pint of Guinness over a pint of frothy lager, with the black Irish stout receiving a popularity rating of 58%, putting it ahead of other leading beer brands.

YouGov, a renowned research and data analytics firm, conducted a comprehensive survey which revealed that the Irish stout was, in fact, the most popular drink of choice for the nation.

YouGov ratings, known for their meticulous and accurate findings, have consistently outperformed rival polling companies, and the latest data was collected during the second quarter of 2023.

Guinness’s high rating surpassed world-famous brands like Corona, Bud Light, Heineken, and Samuel Adams, proving the black stuff is as popular as ever.

The data collected from 1,553 nationally representative interviews of the US population revealed that Guinness received a 58% popularity rating, ahead of its nearest competitors Corona (53%), Heineken (51%), Samuel Adams (49%), Blue Moon (48%) and Budweiser (48%).

The surprising findings may confuse those who have frequented American bars, where the sight of Guinness drinkers is rare, but Guinness has knocked long-time favourite Bud Light off its throne.

The findings showed that Bud Light received a popularity rating of just 42%, putting the former top choice at a lowly 15th.

Bud Light’s drop in popularity could be attributed to a recent marketing campaign which inadvertently fuelled backlash. The collaboration with a transgender influencer sparked boycotts of the brand, and sales of Bud Light and Budweiser have plummeted by 24.6% and 9.2%.

As well as Guinness being named the most popular beer in America, the survey also revealed a few more interesting findings. When it came to disliking Guinness, the Irish stout received a low rating of just 9%, a fame rating of 92%, and a neutral rating of 25%.

Other beers included in the survey were Miller, Corona Light, Coors Light, and Dos Equis. There is no doubt that industry analysts are closely watching how this unexpected beer shift will impact the overall market, but what we know is this is great news for Guinness.

For now, curious consumers and beer enthusiasts can dive deeper into the full YouGov survey, which can be found here.
