An excellent four-part drama available to watch now on Netflix, The Deceived is a gripping, sinister Irish TV series that takes place mainly in Donegal and Cambridge University.

The show follows the story of a university student, Ophelia, played by Emily Reid, who falls for her married lecturer, Michael, played by Irish actor Emmett J. Scanlan.

When Ophelia and Michael’s sordid affair is interrupted by a tragic loss, Ophelia’s life spirals further into never-ending lies and deceit.

Many of the shots used to depict Cambridge University were actually filmed at Queen’s University and Campbell College in Belfast.

    4. Sophie: A Murder in West Cork – a gripping documentary series

One of the best documentary series available to watch on Netflix right now is Sophie: A Murder in West Cork.

Across three gripping episodes, the documentary series takes a look at the life and murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier.

Sophie was a French woman from Paris who was murdered in 1996 outside her holiday home in Goleen, County Cork. Despite British journalist Ian Bailey being a prime suspect in the murder for many years, no one was ever charged with her death.

The documentary takes a look at this and delves further into the story – one of the most notorious Irish murders of all time – that has become a national obsession in Ireland and France.

Rebellion is one of the best Irish TV shows on Netflix right now. It was made to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising.

The story intertwines with complications both inside the police and in the personal lives of both main characters.

    1. Derry Girls – one of the best Irish TV shows

Topping our list of the five best Irish TV shows on Netflix in 2024 is Derry Girls.

Derry Girls is one of the best Irish TV shows of all time. It follows the story of four Derry teens (and the wee English fella) navigating their latter teens at the tail end of the Troubles in Derry, Northern Ireland.
