The Banshees of Inisherin has snapped up the most nominations of any other movie at the Golden Globe Awards 2023.

The Banshees of Inisherin leads nominations for this year's Golden Globes.

A dark comedy by Martin McDonagh and starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson, The Banshees of Inisherin has nabbed the most nominations of any film at the Golden Globe Awards this year with eight nominations.

The nominations include Best Motion Picture, Best Actor in a Motion Picture, Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and two nods for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Brendan Gleeson and Barry Keoghan.

Following after The Banshees of Inisherin for the most nominations in the film category is the break-out absurdist comedy, Everything Everywhere All at Once, with six nominations.

The Banshees of Inisherin was always going to wrangle lots of nominations but has come out in first place with the most nominations at this year’s Golden Globe Awards.

Other than the nominations already mentioned, the movie was also nominated for Best Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Score.

Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert aren’t far behind with six nominations for Everything Everywhere All at Once, starring Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Stephanie Hsu.

The TV series that has received the most nominations is Abbott Elementary, with five nominations.

What the movie is all about.

The film became available for public consumption on 21 October of this year. The movie is set during the Civil War on a remote island in the west of Ireland. It revolves around the friendship of Padraic (Farrell) and Colm (Gleeson), who have been lifelong friends.

It is described as a “black-comedy drama”, much like In Bruges. After a falling out, Padraic repeatedly attempts to repair the relationship.

However, having the opposite effect, this leads to Colm delivering an ultimatum that leads to shocking consequences that left viewers stunned. You can read our review of the film here.

There have been many movies and TV shows that made a stir this year. As such, some of your favourites of 2022 probably have a nomination or two at this year’s Golden Globe Awards.

Netflix’s Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, starring Evan Peters, received four nominations, including Best Limited Series and Best Performance by an Actor.

Interestingly, the Golden Globes this year are somewhat clawing back after receiving backlash last year over voters’ lack of diversity, alleged corruption and lack of professionalism.

While the awards are normally second fiddle to the Oscars, NBC dropped the awards show last year for January 2022 because of this. However, the network will return to screen the event this year on 10 January, when it takes place in Beverly Hills.

You can see the full list of nominees here.
