People are just noticing a hidden Irish passport feature – have you noticed this before?
Posting a video to his TikTok profile, @wezwezwez0 sent Irish people into a frenzy with a seemingly hidden feature of the Irish passport that most people seem to have overlooked.
He said, “So there is this cool thing on Irish passports”. He continues, “If you get your passport and open it up on the very middle page and look, the stitching is green, white and orange. How cute is that?”.
You’re going to check your passport right now, aren’t you? Well, that’s exactly what we did, and lo and behold, he’s right!
The video racked up 70,000 views in the first five days of being posted, probably mostly from Irish people sending the video amongst themselves asking, “Did you know this was there?!”.
Green, white, and orange stitching – an adorable hidden feature

The Irish passport recently rose to the fourth most powerful in the world in a global ranking. This came as a record 1,080,000 Irish passports were issued in 2022.
Despite so many of us having one and the fact that we are constantly looking at our passports when we’re travelling, most of us Irish passport holders seem to have overlooked this adorable feature.
@wezwezwez0 sent TikTok users and beyond spiralling with his revelation, as this intricate feature seems to have gone largely unnoticed.
One TikTok user commented, “Just checked mine thinking this was BS, and it’s actually true”. Another said, “Immediately went and checked and it actually is!”.
Not unique to Irish passports – a common trend across the globe?

Maybe you’ve noticed it before, and maybe you haven’t, but while half of Ireland was starstruck by the green, white and orange stitching revelation, many were quick to comment that this isn’t a feature unique to Irish passports.
One user commented, “I think all passports do that for their country colours”. Another said, “Also checked British passport…the stitching is red white & blue”.
Interestingly, one user posted, “Just looked in my son’s Australian passport and the stitching is white green and blue! I feel ripped off”.
So, has your passport got your country’s colours woven into the middle page of your passport? Let us know!
