5 things Irish people always do on holiday

There are a few things we can’t hold ourselves back from doing when we are away, so let’s see if you can relate to any of these listed below.

Irish people look forward to a holiday abroad, and when the time comes, there is nowhere we would rather be than lapping up the sun, sipping on cocktails and watching the world go by.

However, there are certain things we always do when we are away from home, and while some might ring true for you, many of us will at least know someone who fits the criteria.

So many of these things have become habits and traditions over the years that we can always pick an Irish person out from the crowd if they do any of these five things. So, let us give you a good laugh with these five things Irish people always do on holiday.

    5. Spend too much time in the sun – we don’t waste any precious time

While many locals in the countries we visit tend to avoid the sun during the peak time of the day, you will almost always find an Irish person soaking up as much sun as possible, even if it leads to sunburn or sunstroke.

Our Irish skin may not be used to the soaring temperatures, but we won’t waste any of our holiday sitting inside, that is for sure. We would much rather go home with a shade of red than no colour. Isn’t that right?

    4. Get up early to save a sun lounger – the best seats in the place

    Secure a sun lounger.

So, Irish people might not be the only nationality doing this, but we certainly won’t miss our chance at grabbing the best seats (and by seats, we mean sun loungers) in the house, which means they are close enough to the bar, yet just steps from the pool.

Over the years, we have learned this from our parents and grandparents, who always made sure to get the best spots on the beach or the hotel complex, so you could say it’s a holiday tradition.

But, of course, one of the best ways we love to do this is to get up bright and early and head down to the pool or beach with towels, which is a guaranteed way to save your spot.

    3. Compare the weather to home – it’s all about bragging rights

One of the main things Irish people always do on holiday is to check the weather at home, purely to be able to tell our friends and family who we’ve left behind, just how glorious it is where we are. This is just another thing on the list of many things that make Irish people happy.

Sure, it’s all about bragging rights! But, on the other hand, there is nothing worse than discovering that Ireland is having a heatwave during the only few weeks we decide to leave the country, while we are layering up to avoid the chills, adamant that we will not leave the poolside.

    2. Make new friends – we are a social bunch

Yes, Irish people are well known for being outgoing and friendly, and we love nothing more than meeting people from around the world, and if they are from Ireland too, then even better.

Making new friends when you are away is one of the top things that Irish people always do on holiday, and even if we never see them again, at least we can share nights out together and perhaps head off on day trips if we really get along well.

    1. Find an Irish pub – the best place for the craic

Don’t get us wrong, we will always search for a local eatery, cocktail bar or club to enjoy, but at the end of the day, if we pass by an Irish bar, it will most likely become our local boozer for the duration of the holiday.

So much so that by the end of the trip, the bar staff will most likely know our names and standard orders, and if we really make an impression, we may even get a job offer, making this one of the main things Irish people always do on holiday.

So, there you have it, the five things Irish people always do on holidays, whether coming home with a new best friend, a job offer or even a classic Irish sunburn, you can be sure that we all know someone who fits the bill.
