Conor McGregor is one of the biggest sports stars in the world. Here is 10 things you didn’t know about him.
1. McGregor was bullied as a kid
Due to his size, McGregor was an easy target and used to get bullied at a young age. Bullying became one of the reasons why he grew closer to combat sport growing up. He himself recalls that “I had a face which bullies liked beating up”. Nowadays, he actually attends seminars in schools giving lectures on how to deal with bullying at different levels in schools.
2. He was on the Dole
When McGregor debuted with the UFC, he defeated Marcus Brimage by first round knockout. This earned McGregor a $60,000 “Knockout of the Night” bonus for his efforts. In the post-fight press conference, he said:
“To be honest, I don’t know what’s going on here, I’m just up here hearing $60,000. I’m just thinking of what I’m going to spend it on. I’m going to buy myself a nice car and maybe some suits or something, some custom-made suits. I don’t know. Just last week I was collecting the social welfare.”
3. He is a trained plumber
During his early 20s and not long before his fighting career started, Conor McGregor trained as a plumber.
4. He likes to have sex before fights
Some fighters have superstitions about sex before fights but McGregor has admitted that he likes to have as much sex as possible before fights.
5. He is the biggest name in the UFC
McGregor is without doubt, the biggest name in the UFC. Dana White is even on record saying that McGregor is the biggest thing ever to happen both the UFC and the sport of MMA. He holds records for the biggest PPV and gate reciepts in UFC history.
