Sport plays a central theme in Irish society today, and we have built the stadia to accommodate. Here are the most famous sports venues around Ireland.

Owing to blossoming homegrown sports and a growing success on the club and international stage in rugby, Ireland has amassed a litany of famous sports venues to act as suitable hosts to the burgeoning talent now on display.

These stadia can be found in each corner of the Emerald Isle, finding their feet in Belfast and Limerick, Cork, and Dublin, all of which have built their own folklore and memories.

With thousands of people visiting regularly, read on to discover the top five most famous sports venues around Ireland.

5. Casement Park, Co. Antrim – edging closer to a revamp

The first on our list of our most famous sports venues around Ireland is Casement Park.

Named after Irish revolutionary Roger Casement, this was the former beating heart of the Andersonstown Road in West Belfast.

We say ‘former’ as Casement Park is currently awaiting redevelopment and has lain derelict since Monaghan defeated Antrim in the Ulster Football Championship in 2013.

However, when the redevelopment does occur, it will be the home of Ulster GAA and sure to be one of the most visited sports venues in all of Ireland, and most certainly Belfast.

4. Thomond Park, Co. Limerick – home of Munster Rugby

Finding its home in Limerick city, Thomond Park is next on the list of our most famous sports venues around Ireland.

It is the home stadium of Munster Rugby, one of the four professional provincial rugby teams on the Emerald Isle and European champions in 2006 and 2008.

The stadium’s electric atmosphere is buttressed by the vociferous voice of the Munster faithful with a capacity of over 25,000 people.

The rugby season is currently underway, both for clubs and international sides, and is well worth a punt. While you’re at it, you may want to have a go at roulette online LVBET.

3. Parc Uí Chaoimh, Co. Cork – Ireland’s newest stadium

Found in Cork in the south of Ireland, Parc Uí Chaoimh recently underwent a major redevelopment. It is undoubtedly one of the most famous sports venues around Ireland.

Having initially opened in 1976, the stadium now holds a massive 45,000 people. It is a fitting venue for Cork GAA, the Rebel County, and for premier Munster championship games.

This state-of-the-art, modern facility rivals all over sports venues across the country. This indicates the growing popularity and success of the GAA in Cork, Munster, and beyond.

2. Aviva Stadium, Co. Dublin – one of the most famous sports venues around Ireland

Missing out narrowly on the top spot on our list of the most famous venues around Ireland is the iconic Aviva Stadium, home of Irish rugby and soccer in the capital of Dublin.

The modern glass design of the Aviva leaves the stadium-goer in awe at its beauty.

Further, despite its youth, it has witnessed some of the great Irish rugby and soccer games, perhaps most notably the recent victory over the All Blacks in November 2021.

The former Landsdowne Road stadium was demolished in 2007. Now sits the 51,000 seater stadium, making it slightly bigger than Parc Ui Chaoimh but behind Croke Park, next on our list.

1. Croke Park, Co. Dublin – the undisputed home of the GAA

It is perhaps fitting that the home of the GAA, Ireland’s homegrown sports organisation, is top of the list of the most famous sports venues around Ireland.

That honour and accolade, of course, goes to Croke Park, found in Drumcondra in Dublin. It hosts the biggest games in the calendar year of both football and hurling.

Croke Park also hosts some of the world’s top music talents and sporting games. It has a capacity of 82,300 people and is affectionately known as ‘Croker’.

With full crowds now returning to Irish sports across the country, Croker will be the place to be this summer as the football and hurling championships draw to a close.

Address: Jones’ Rd, Drumcondra, Dublin 3, Ireland
