It has been recently revealed that a well-known US fast food chain is planning to open in Ireland and is now looking for potential franchisee candidates to help to grow their brand.

US fast food chain Wendy’s has recently announced that they officially plan to open stores in Ireland.

The well-established fast-food franchise is hoping to make a successful impact on the Irish market as it prepares to compete with already well-established franchises such as McDonald’s, KFC and Burger King, to name but a few.

Founded in 1969, Wendy’s has since established itself as a hugely successful worldwide franchise. The chain has more than 7,000 restaurants worldwide, including 25 in the UK.

Wendy’s is perhaps best known for its “made-to-order square hamburgers, freshly prepared salads and other signature items like chili, baked potatoes and the Frosty dessert”.

The name “Wendy’s” and its iconic logo, which is the image of a little red-headed girl with pigtails, was inspired by one of its founders, Dave Thomas’, daughters.

The news that Wendy’s plans to enter the Irish market is excellent news for hamburger lovers. Furthermore, it’s great news for all Irish consumers across the board.

More competition will generally lead to competitors lowering their prices, making things more affordable for the average consumer.

Wendy’s re-entered the UK in June 2021. It now has 25 restaurants currently operating in the UK, 10 of which are company-operated.

Following their success in the UK, Wendy’s has been inspired to expand further across the sea to Ireland using its franchise model.

The company has announced that they’re seeking “well-established franchisee candidates in Ireland” to expand the Wendy’s brand across Europe further.

Wendy’s also stated that these potential candidates in Ireland should have “strong operations experience, local development expertise, ambition to grow quickly and a proven track record of growing brands in Ireland to help Wendy’s reach its full potential”.

Abigail Pringle, President, International & Chief Development Officer of Wendy’s, made a statement on the matter.

She said, “As we continue to expand our international footprint, we are focused on building long-term relationships with franchises in Ireland who want to grow with us, share our values and reflect the communities in which we operate.

“We are committed to serving high-quality, great-tasting food, and intend to offer our wide range of craveable menu options, including our famous square hamburgers made with fresh beef patties and served hot off the grill.”
