From the lilt of the Irish accent to freckled cheeks, friendly nature, and fierce attitude, these are just ten of the things that tell you you’re dating an Irish woman.

Irish women exist in a league of their own. Here are ten little things that tell you you’re dating an Irish woman.

There are many traits to love about the Irish as a whole, and Irish women are no exception. Characterised by a love of banter, tremendous warmth, family focus, and terrific manners, sure, what’s not to love?

If you’re gearing up for your first-ever date with an Irish lass, these are just some of the things that may tell you you’re dating an Irish woman. These certainly are good to know before dating an Irish person!

10. Great banter – the craic

The Irish are known worldwide as lovers of banter, or as we call it, ‘the craic‘.

One of the surefire things that tell you you’re dating an Irish woman is the effortless execution of banter all around. Hold on to your hat; this is going to be a fun date!

9. A friend to all – loves to make new friends

One of the things you'll find out about dating an Irish woman is we're very sociable.

Irish people love to make friends, so one thing you can be sure of on a date with an Irish woman is a social affair.

Expect laughs all around as your one-on-one transforms into a lively experience chatting to all and everyone along your way.

8. Loves a good Guinness – knows the good from the bad

A common characteristic of an Irish person is that they can spot a well-poured glass of Guinness, and Irish girls are no exception.

Guinness pouring is an art, and the telltale signs are told through the creamy head and residue on the glass. Expect to learn a lot about ‘the black stuff’ (aka Guinness) when you’re dating an Irish woman. The same might go if you’re dating an Irish man …

7. A love of slang – try to keep up

Slang is a common form of expression around the world, Ireland included. Another one of the things that tell you you’re dating an Irish woman is the heavy use of slang.

Expect tonnes of terms being fired out from “sure look” to “what’s da story?”

6. Drinks a lot of tea – a nationwide obsession

Tea, tea, and more tea. Indeed, the Irish drink so much tea that sometimes it is considered the patent drink of Ireland, competing with Guinness, as mentioned above.

The big debate tends to be over which tea to choose from, Barry’s or Lyons?

5. Loyalty first – a quality trait

Loyalty is one of the traits you'll recognise when dating an Irish woman.

Loyalty is a common Irish trait and a quality one at that. Perhaps it is due to our tendency towards large families, and with that often comes loyalty. Or, perhaps we’re just a sound bunch. Either way, loyalty is not a bad thing to have in your arsenal.

4. Loves her mammy – the woman in her life

Irish people love their mammy. I mean, really love their mammy. Expect long chats about the brilliance of the woman in her life, as well as many claims to fame over Sunday roasts and Irish breakfasts.

And, should you ever meet her mammy, expect that woman to tell you all about her mammy, too.

3. A fan of fine dining – Irish ‘fine dining’ that is

One of the things you'll know when dating an Irish woman is we love fine dining.

The Irish share a love of fine dining. To be specific: Irish fine dining. Dishes that should come to the fore include Irish stew, coddle, colcannon, boxty, and Tayto.

Not to mention the almighty crisp sandwich or chicken fillet roll. Indeed we have impeccably advanced taste buds.

2. Great manners – please & thank you

Another one of the things that will tell you you’re dating an Irish woman is her great manners.

This is a common trait in most Irish people and, again, a welcome characteristic in all individuals. Expect please and thank you in abundance.

The cherry on the cake? Irish people even thank the bus drivers!

1. A friendly face – a warm Irish welcome
