5. The trousers and skirt combo – for when you couldn’t decide
Luckily, guys, you never had to sport this questionable fashion choice, but this was extremely popular among the girls.
The trousers and skirt combo stuck around for a good while and could be found in many mainstream shops and clothes markets. They could also be paired with another one of the fashion items all Irish 90s kids will remember: the dashing belly top.
The trousers and skirt combo was basically made up of a pair of trousers with a skirt attached that wrapped around the waist to tie or be zipped up. These were the height of fashion when bands such as B*Witched, Steps, and S Club Seven were seen wearing them.

However, they were a risky item to be worn to ‘no uniform’ school days because the buttons could easily be ripped open by anyone, aiming to have a laugh at your expense.

Not so long ago, this trend came back to haunt us. However, when it was relaunched, it was aimed specifically to be worn as an evening item with heels.
We’re glad that didn’t last long!
3. Light up runners – the light of our young lives
Again, another one of the unisex fashion items all Irish 90s kids will remember. We Irish kids loved to sport the light-up runners.
We absolutely adored these shoes and thought we were the bee’s knees with a pair on our feet.
Surely, we can all remember our first pair of these as a 90s kid in Ireland. They were on almost everyone’s Christmas lists.
Each step with these bad boys on made us so happy, but they weren’t made to last forever. So, it was inevitable that when the lights stopped flashing for the final time, we had to say our goodbyes, or we would start saving for a new pair, which, as a kid, would take a very long time.

This item is something that we loved at the time, cringed at when we grew up, and then began to love again as adults.
Yes, the bum bag is back, and even now, in 2021, they can be seen in every shop and on many waists of all ages around the country.
It’s a practical item, after all. So, maybe we’re not so disappointed to have this item catch up with us all these years later.

If we didn’t own one of these, we certainly knew someone who did. Bomber jackets generally came in an array of colours. After all, the 90s were all about bright shades and crazy patterns.
Bomber jackets, teamed with the loose fabric, the zip up the front, and the short collar, gave us a 90s trend we will never forget.
Of course, bomber jackets have been around for years and are still on trend today. But we could certainly recognise a 90s bomber jacket if we saw one. These are probably our favourite and most memorable 90s items out there!
