A long-forgotten county in Ireland is about to experience some significant changes thanks to Donald Trump; here is what you need to know.
Ireland is a country that is world-renowned for its incredible golf courses, which attract plenty of international and professional golfers every year, so of course, it was about time some new plans were put in place for a brand-spanking new international golf course.
Not only will this unique golf course be a fantastic opportunity for the local community regarding employment and the local economy, but the location chosen will undoubtedly benefit from a much-needed facelift.
While there were many choices for this new Donald Trump golf course, the chosen site has shocked and excited many, but Donald Trump himself is just as excited to see his new vision come to light.
Donald Trump golf course coming to Monaghan − the new location
Before we reveal the plans for the excellent golf course, we first need to disclose the location of this brand-new venture from one of the best-known entrepreneurs and ex-US presidents on the planet.
Donald Trump, behind the well-established and ever-popular Trump International Golf Links and Hotel Doonbeg, was searching for a brand-new region in Ireland to begin the new project. So, he embarked on a whirlwind helicopter tour of Ireland in search of inspiration.
Trump, whose Doonbeg resort has evolved to become an award-winning golfing destination, is quoted as saying that when he landed in the new location, he just knew this would be the perfect spot.
Monaghan, an Irish county (yes, really!) that lies in the province of Ulster, is commonly referred to as ‘the county that Ireland forgot’, which is one of the reasons for it being chosen.
While Monaghan is a prime destination for ‘bog snorkelling’ – and that’s about it – it is time that the forgotten county was put back on the map as a desirable place to go.
With that in mind, Donald Trump is hopeful that the upcoming facelift will significantly impact the local region and encourage the desirability of the sometimes-overlooked area. But what can you expect from these up-and-coming international golf links? Let’s spill the beans!
An exciting time ahead – the big plans
Since the county of Monaghan has many open spaces and fields which have been left abandoned over the years, there was no hesitation from the local community to hand over the land to Trump in the hopes that something good would finally come of it.
In addition, the strategic location was chosen to appeal to those travelling from all parts of the island and to make great use of the area’s natural beauty (yes, it has some), which has gone unnoticed over the years, deeming the county “a place not to bother with”, according to a Dublin native who was recently asked what he thought of the new plans.
The new Trump International Golf Links II has already begun construction and will encompass many incredible features which will attract budding and pro golfers from around the globe.
Features will include artificial sand dunes among the enormous 500 acres of land, extensive Buddhist-inspired water features, a six-story glass-panelled hotel with exclusive suites, a 4-story spa with international specialised therapists, and an 18-hole landscaped golf course to attract every golfing enthusiast.
Unfortunately, locals had previously refused permission from Trump when he first planned to build the golf resort.
So instead, the Doonbeg location was chosen as Monaghan is Trump’s favourite Irish county and preferred location.
Luckily there was a change of heart this time round, and plans are in place for Trump’s golfing dream to become a reality, a goal that Monaghan natives have now come to terms with.
New Donald Trump golf course comes to Monaghan – local reactions
Local reactions to the big news have been mixed, but self-proclaimed number one Trump fan Larry Donnelly has said that he has been waiting years for this day to arrive, and he cannot wait for a round of golf and a pint at the Trump International Golf Resort.
Despite Larry having never held a golf club, he is even more determined now to take a few lessons and get involved.
On the other hand, some locals are outraged that rugged and wild Monaghan will now be transformed into a “Disneyland for golfers”.
They are contemplating starting a petition or moving to another county. The local mayor says that although the decision won’t please everyone, the iconic golf resort will be the best thing to have ever happened to the county.
We’re not sure about you, but we can’t wait to see the international reaction to Monaghan’s new landmark.
