There are some differences between north and south Dublin, and here are ten reasons why north Dublin is better than south.

10 reasons why north Dublin is better than south.

Anyone from Dublin, or anywhere in Ireland for that matter, will undoubtedly be aware of the ongoing rivalry between those from the north and south sides of the Liffey.

While this revolves around a lot of banter and slagging, with no actual conflict between the areas, some apparent factors make them unique, even if they are both parts of the same city.

Northsiders and Southsiders are incredibly proud of their heritage and will make this known if you ever meet a local. So, with that being said, let’s take a look at the ten reasons why north Dublin is better than south.

    10. Its closer to the airport – easy and convenient

Irish people love jetting off from time to time, and being from the north side means you are just a stone’s throw from the airport in Swords. Thus, you avoid paying the toll on the M50, and you can get home quicker when you land. Just bliss!

    9. It’s cheaper – more bang for your buck

    North Dublin is cheaper.

Traditionally the Northside has always been associated with the working class, and because of this, many properties are cheaper than the Southside, as well as the price of food and drinks. Once you cross the Liffey, you can see the rise in prices, which differs from town to town.

    8. The beaches – a paradise within the city

When this area is home to stunning places such as Burrow Beach, Malahide, Portrane, as well as the Howth Cliff walk, this has to be one of the main reasons why north Dublin is better than south. Of course, the south has some lovely beaches too, but the north ones are great!

    7. Plenty of hidden nature spots – less visited locations

Compared to the Southside, the Northside of Dublin has a host of stunning, underrated nature spots such as St Annes Park, St Catherines Park, North Bull Island, and so much more, which are sometimes overlooked by visitors to the area, and even Southsiders.

    6. Fantastic bars and restaurants – a thriving nightlife

Yes, you get more bang for your buck on the Northside, but let’s talk about the incredible spots to choose from. The array of bars and restaurants along Capel Street, in Phibsboro, and the many coastal towns are one of the main reasons the north side is better than the south.

    5. Ideally situated – a central location

Living on the Northside means reaching places like Belfast, Donegal, and Derry in record time without crossing the city first.

When booze and food were cheaper over the border, it was convenient for Northsiders to pop up for the Christmas food shop.

    4. The attractions – the best things to see

From the stunning Botanic Gardens, Malahide Castle, Phoenix Park and Dublin Zoo, one of the biggest reasons why north Dublin is better than south is its fantastic attractions – and there’s plenty more where this came from.

    3. Epic views – around every corner

Strolling alongside Malahide marina, Portmarnock beach or witnessing Burrow Beach from the cliffside, not to mention the tremendous coastal walk in Portrane, it’s hard to ignore the insatiable views that the north side of Dublin has to offer.

    2. Croke Park – an authentic Irish experience

When match day comes around, Croke Park and surrounding areas bustle with sports fans, making the north side a great place. Locals take great pride in the fact that this iconic stadium is on their doorstep, and there is no better place to enjoy an authentic Irish atmosphere than Croke Park.

    1. Aras an Uachtarain – the home of our President

One of the top reasons north Dublin is better than the south is that the President lives there. Aras an Uachtarain is located in the heart of Phoenix Park and is an iconic place to visit or witness. It’s the Irish White House, located on the Northside!

So, there it is, our list of the main reasons north Dublin is better than south. Can you agree with these facts, or do you love them equally? Nevertheless, we can all agree that Dublin is filled with incredible spots on both sides of the Liffey. However, some may be better than others.
