What if we told you 2003 was a whopping twenty years ago? Would you feel old? Well, we certainly do!

However, there are many things which we can look back on which bring a smile to our faces and some which make us cringe.

We see how far the world has progressed in terms of technology now that we all have access to the internet at the touch of a button and Alexa to guide us through life.

If you wondered just how far life has taken us in 2023, here are ten things you’ll remember from 2003 that will give you a giggle.

Forget Covid; who remembers the SARS pandemic of 2003? This outbreak began in China with a fishmonger who infected thirty medical staff and spread to several countries, causing worldwide infection and deaths. Skip ahead to 2019, and it’s like history repeating itself.

    9. Bandana tops – a fashion faux pas

2003 was a year of questionable fashion choices, and this one is specifically for girls. Bandana tops became a thing, and instead of being used as intended, fashion encouraged us to wear them as tops – and we did!

Looking back, the bandana top has to be one of the cringiest things from 2003.

    8. Songs from 2003 – the year in song

One of the main things you’ll remember from 2003 is the music, and these songs are sure to bring back some nostalgia.

Do we all remember the 50 Cent hit song ‘In da Club’ or ‘Beautiful’ by Christina Aguilera? How about ‘Crazy in Love’ by Beyonce and Jay-Z or even ‘Lose Yourself’ by Eminem?

    7. Popular TV shows – the ones that kept us entertained

If you were an avid watcher of TV (and who wasn’t?), you would undoubtedly recognise these top TV shows that were popular in 2003.

What about ER, Everybody Loves Raymond, Survivor or even CSI? All of these were among that year’s most popular TV shows, to name a few.

    6. The environmentally friendly Toyota Prius – a new hybrid car

While many new cars came out in 2003, one of the main things you’ll remember is the launch of the Toyota Prius, a hybrid electric compact car which many people strived to get their hands on.

While the focus went on environmental protection, so made the demand to purchase a hybrid vehicle.

    5. 2003 movies – the ones we all loved to watch

One of the top things you’ll remember from 2003 is the movies that came out that year, including Finding Nemo, Bruce Almighty and one of the best Christmas movies ever – Elf, to name a few. If these don’t ring a bell, how about Kill Bill or the festive rom-com Love Actually?

    4. The 2003 European heatwave – Europe got hot

When it comes to remembering things from years gone by, we can all be sure that the weather played a huge part, and in 2003, Europe experienced a massive heatwave.

Countries such as Italy, Spain and France, being the worst, experienced consecutive days of 40-plus degrees, which was unheard of.

    3. Phones from 2003 – the iconic Nokia

One of the things you’ll remember from 2003 is what phone you had – if any. In 2003, the Nokia 3300 was announced as a music-playing phone, while the Nokia 1100 became the world’s best-selling phone handset at the time, only to be discontinued in 2009.

    2. iTunes – music made easier

Apple launched iTunes and sold one million songs within the first week of release. These days it’s hard to believe that iTunes hasn’t been around since the beginning of time, but believe it or not, there was once an era when neither the iPhone nor iTunes ever existed.

    1. Tesla Motors – changing the world

Believe it or not, there was once a time when Tesla’s sustainable cars didn’t exist. In fact, the company was only founded in 2003 by Elon Musk.

Tesla is an American multinational company that makes eco-friendly cars and focuses on clean energy and artificial intelligence.

2003 was filled with a mix of things, from technological evolutions and beyond, but looking back, we can see just how much our world has evolved right before our eyes.
