Over the weekend, Brendan Gleeson hosted Saturday Night Live for the very first time. His debut was interrupted by fellow Irishman and friend Colin Farrell.

For the first time ever, Brendan Gleeson hosted Saturday Night Live over the weekend. He gave possibly one of the most wholesome monologues the show has seen.

During his opening monologue, Gleeson discussed working with Colin Farrell on previous films as well as their most recent endeavour, The Banshees of Inisherin.

While he’s playing the banjo and talking about the most recent movie, Colin Farrell joins him on stage for a bit of a sing-song. You can watch the video below.

Colin Farrell crashes Brendan Gleeson’s SNL debut – the pair back together

After talking about working with Colin Farrell, the man himself appears on stage to join Gleeson; his face is adorned with a huge fake moustache.

He playfully tells Gleeson, “I was just passing. I was on my way from the moustache shop”. He then goes on to ask him who his favourite ever co-star has been over the years, to which Gleeson replies, “Paddington Bear”.

Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell have become somewhat of an iconic duo, even if their only film together until now was In Bruges.

The Banshees of Inisherin is the latest film by British-Irish playwright and director Martin McDonagh.

Set on a remote island in the west of Ireland, the film sees the two In Bruges stars reunite once more.

The story follows two lifelong friends at a stalemate when one suddenly decides to end the relationship.

As Gleeson describes it on SNL, “because one of them is too needy”. He says that although he “loves Colin to bits, the story’s not too far from the truth”. While their relationship crumbles, the Civil War rages on the mainland.

Saturday Night Live – Gleeson’s first time hosting

Throughout the show, Gleeson took part in a number of hilarious sketches. Mainly one where he plays a newscaster reporting on Joe Biden’s presidency.

Another is where he takes over modelling a headshot appointment for his grandson. In this one, Colin Farrell makes a cameo appearance.

Other iconic sketches from the show include Ego Nwodim portraying “Black Ariel” on the “Weekend Update” segment.

The musical entertainment for the episode was provided by Willow Smith. This was her second appearance on the show.
