10 things people hate about Irish rugby boys.

Irish rugby boys have a way about them which can sometimes annoy us. They may be good at what they do and how they play, but they certainly have traits that can be irritating.

From how they dress to their social circles, there are plenty of things Irish people hate about rugby boys, so let’s share a few with you here.

One of the top things people hate about Irish rugby boys is their arrogance, which sometimes becomes annoying.

Rugby players always need everyone to know that they are rugby players, and with that comes bragging about games they have won and their skillset, which can be overbearing at times.

    9. Obsessed with rugby – they love nothing more

One of the things people hate about Irish rugby boys is their obsession with the sport. Not only is it all they do in their spare time, but when they meet up in the pub or at an event, all they do is talk about rugby.

It’s always on their mind, whether it’s the past fixtures, upcoming games, or the latest gossip.

    8. Rugby friends – a social circle

Irish rugby boys tend to hang around with other rugby boys, and fair enough, since they have one main thing in common. However, their social groups don’t have much diversity, and the events they and their rugby friends attend are generally – you guessed it – rugby-related.

    7. Ingratiating yourself in the social scene – all things rugby

Irish rugby boys tend to be obsessed with rugby, as we have mentioned, so their social scene always revolves around rugby. This is particularly grating if you’re not into rugby yourself.

If they have a game on, don’t even think about asking them to meet up with you, and if you do meet up, be prepared to attend a rugby event or watch the latest game in the pub. Ingratiating yourself in the social scene is just something you have to put up with!

    6. Rivalry – things can get awkward

Rugby, like any sport, entails a bit of rivalry, which can carry into a rugby player’s daily life off the field.

The most irritating thing about this is it can cause a lot of awkward and unwanted situations if they meet their rivals when they are out and about, and one of their biggest rivals are GAA players. Never invite them to a GAA match; things could get uncomfortable.

    5. The history – an aristocratic past

One of the things Irish people hate about rugby boys is the history of which they are so proud. Rugby in Ireland began in aristocratic clubs in Dublin and Cork and was seen as a pursuit of the upper classes.

It was seen as a British sport that kept them fit between hunting and polo tournaments.

    4. Their macho appearance – a little too much

Rugby is a challenging game, so of course, the players need to be in tip-top shape, but their macho appearance, including missing teeth and bruised bodies, can put people off.

One of the things rugby players always do is to train and work out to keep their macho looks, which can be seen as vain to some people.

    3. The ladies love them – a threat to the GAA men

Yes, the macho look might not appeal to some, but most ladies love Irish rugby boys, making them a threat to GAA players in Ireland.

Is it the missing teeth, the crisp, clean shirt, or the vast biceps? We are not sure, but one thing is certain: they always catch the ladies’ eyes when they are in town.

    2. Posh – it’s a fact

    Everyone knows they're posh.

Yes, rugby boys in Ireland are almost always posh, well-spoken, well-dressed individuals, which can irritate many of us. Rugby is always associated with private schools in Ireland, and in Dublin, it is often associated with the posh southside area.

    1. Style – they stand out

One of the things people hate about Irish rugby players is their style. Rugby players tend to wear expensive clothes, well-known brands, and, of course, they love wearing their rugby shirts out and about.

You can always spot a rugby boy by their style, and this is one thing that can make us cringe.

There it is – ten things Irish people hate about rugby boys. We can imagine there are plenty more where they came from, so what else annoys you about rugby boys?
