In what has been a very successful year, Cillian Murphy has claimed yet another accolade. HelloFresh named the star the most popular Irish heartthrob.

The stock of Irish film and television has never been higher, with many of the best names in contemporary acting hailing from the Emerald Isle.

One man, though, is the leader of the pack. Cillian Murphy seemingly won every award he was nominated for this year, and now has the distinction of being the most popular Irish heartthrob, according to HelloFresh.

The past 12 months have proven a great year for Cork native Cillian Murphy. The Peaky Blinders star became the first Irish-born actor to win the Best Actor Oscar (Daniel Day-Lewis is an Irish citizen, but was born in London) for his performance in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.

His Oscar win also made him the first Irish-born actor to pick up an acting award from the Academy since Brenda Fricker in 1989. The award was preceded by wins at the BAFTAs, Golden Globes, and Screen Actors Guild Awards, making 2024 a fruitful year for Murphy.

He now has another accolade to his name, as HelloFresh have named the star the most popular Irish heartthrob.

HelloFresh used monthly Google search volumes, monthly searches on TikTok, and the number of online article mentions to determine the most popular Irish heartthrobs.

Murphy ranked first with 1,300 monthly Google searches, over four million TikTok searches, and 300 article mentions. Just behind Murphy was The Banshees of Inisherin star Colin Farrell, with Belfast’s Jamie Dornan completing the top three.

Elsewhere on HelloFresh’s list you’ll find Liam Neeson, Pierce Brosnan, Niall Horan, Barry Keoghan, Paul Mescal, Saoirse Ronan, Hozier, Andrew Scott, Nicola Coughlan, and Una Healy.

With the research being carried out by HelloFresh, there was always going to be a food angle. So, they also divulged which dishes lead the way to these Irish stars’ hearts.

HelloFresh’s research suggests that Murphy has a taste for aged cheddar and Victoria sponge cake – hopefully not together!

Meanwhile, Colin Farrell, in true Irish fashion, loves a kebab and chips after a night out. He even has a black card at legendary Dublin kebab shop, Abrakebabra. Jamie Dornan (colcannon), Liam Neeson (potatoes), and Paul Mescal (his mum’s soup) opted for traditional Irish fare.

Saoirse Ronan, on the other hand, loves China’s General Tso’s chicken, Nicola Coughlan likes anything garlicky, and Una Healy prefers oily fish.
