    10. Fastest goal in Premier League history – record held by an Irishman

    Kicking off our list of the unforgettable moments of fastest records in sports is the quickest goal scored in the Premier League, widely regarded as one of the best football leagues across the world.

    The accolade goes to Irishman Shane Long. After just 7.69 seconds back in April 2019, Shane Long put Southampton 1-0 up against Watford.

    9. Fastest record in women’s marathon – incredible fitness

    The fastest record in women’s marathon is held by Tigst Assefa. She completed the Berlin Marathon in 2023 in an incredible time of 2:11:53.

    The Ethiopian long-distance runner is also a former 800 metres specialist and represented Ethiopia aged 19 at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

    8. Fastest knockout in MMA history – only took a second

    The fastest knockout in MMA history was smashed just last year in 2023 when Luis Hernandez knocked out Brian Topp with a head kick just one second into the fight!

    The event took place at Titan FC 83 in Florida, breaking the UFC record held by Jorge Masvidal from knocking out Ben Askren after 5 seconds in 2019.

    7. Fastest record in men’s marathon – set in Chicago

    Seventh on our list of the unforgettable moments of fastest records in sports is the fastest record set in a men’s marathon, at an outrageous time of 2:00:35.

    This is held by Kelvin Kiptum, who completed the 2023 Chicago Marathon with the record time. The record has been ratified by the World Athletics.

    Kiptum tragically died in a car accident in February 2024.

    6. Fastest hat-trick in NHL history – one of the unforgettable moments of fastest records in sports

    The Guinness World Records notes that the fastest hat-trick scored by a hockey player in the National Hockey League is after 21 seconds.

    Canadian Bill Mosienko scored the hat-trick whilst playing for the Chicago Blackhawks against the New York Rangers on 23 March 1952.

    5. Fastest goal in an All-Ireland football final – Ireland’s premier sporting occasion

    Starting the top five of the unforgettable moments of fastest records in sports is Dublin GAA legend and iconic forward Dean Rock.

    As Dublin were going for six-in-a-row, Rock scored a goal after just 13 seconds in Ireland’s premier sporting occasion.

    4. Fastest knockout in boxing history – ­over in ten

    Phil Williams holds the record for the fastest knockout in professional boxing history. He fought Brandon Burke back in 2007 in St Paul, Minnesota.

    It was both fighters’ fourth professional fight, but it only took Williams 10 seconds to defeat his opponent and take fourth spot on our list of unforgettable moments of fastest records in sport.

    3. Fastest touchdown in NFL – an unbelievable record

    3 seconds. It seems almost incredible that this is the record for the National Football League’s fastest-ever touchdown, but it’s true.

    Dallas special teamer Randal Williams anticipated an onside kick by the Eagles, who started the game. Grabbing the ball, he ran all of 37 yards to the end zone in 2003.

    2. Fastest hat-trick in football history – a Sunday League record

    Sunday League football, according to the Guinness World Records, is home to the fastest hat-trick scored in football history.

    Alex Torr, playing for a club named Rawson Spring in Sheffield, scored the three goals in the space of only 70 seconds in 2013.

    1. Usain Bolt’s 100m record – unbreakable

    Taking top spot on our list of the unforgettable moments of fastest records in sports is Usain Bolt, the undisputed fastest person on the planet.

    Bolt holds the record for the fastest 100 metre sprint. It took him only 9.58 seconds at the 2009 IAAF World Championships. He also holds the Olympic record for the same sprint, coming in at 9.63 seconds.
