Let’s face it: Conor McGregor has brought shame to Ireland on numerous occasions, but these are some of the worst scenarios to date.

It’s no surprise that Conor McGregor, aka ‘The Notorious’, has sparked controversy over the years. Indeed, there have been quite a few times when the Irish nation has held their heads in shame.
While many of the typical, ludicrous scandals can easily be laughed at or brushed off, we can’t help but admit that there have certainly been many times Ireland should’ve disowned Conor McGregor.
With that in mind, let’s take you back and unveil these notorious scenarios which should have stripped McGregor of all his Irish connections.
- Let’s face it: Conor McGregor has brought shame to Ireland on numerous occasions, but these are some of the worst scenarios to date.
- 8. Trash talk – getting personal
- 7. Drunk at the TUF House – a real embarrassment
- 6. Unprovoked attack on Italian DJ – a dangerous man
- 5. Ongoing retirement announcements – attention-seeking behaviour
- 4. Death threats – taking things too far
- 3. Dublin riots social media post – under investigation
- 2. Punching an old man – an uncalled-for act of violence
- 1. Attack on a bus at Barclays Centre – a step too far
8. Trash talk – getting personal
While much of McGregor’s trash talk is so ridiculous and cringeworthy you can’t help but laugh, sometimes, he goes too far with his words.
From insulting his opponent’s family members to getting far too personal, there have been times Ireland should’ve disowned Conor McGregor for his harsh words.
7. Drunk at the TUF House – a real embarrassment
The former UFC champion was called out for being drunk and stumbling around outside the The Ultimate Fighter house, where he was filming the 31st season of the show.
During a taping of the show, the MMA fighter was caught drunk and disorderly when he should have been acting as a mentor to the UFC contestants.
6. Unprovoked attack on Italian DJ – a dangerous man
If two things don’t go well together, it’s Conor McGregor and alcohol. During a night of partying on the French island of Corsica, McGregor punched Italian DJ and TV presenter Francesco Facchinetti in the face, breaking his nose.
The unprovoked attack led to charges against the MMA fighter, with Facchinetti declaring him as ‘dangerous’ and someone who needed to be stopped.
5. Ongoing retirement announcements – attention-seeking behaviour

As we all know, McGregor has announced his retirement from UFC many times, only to return to the sport not long after his statements.
This attention-seeking behaviour makes the entire nation cringe, and since he has repeated the trend three times, enough is enough.
4. Death threats – taking things too far
The Irish are known to be a friendly nation, so when a fellow Irishman offers death threats, the Irish people have every right to disown them.
Conor McGregor did such a thing against Dustin Poirier ahead of their rematch at UFC 257 when he mimicked a gun while threatening to kill him and his wife in their sleep.
3. Dublin riots social media post – under investigation

In November 2023, Irish police were investigating a social media post shared by Conor McGregor concerning the Dublin riots.
McGregor wrote that Ireland needed a change, saying victims had been “ruthlessly stabbed by a mentally deranged non-national”. The tweet prompted police to assess the post relating to online hate speech.
2. Punching an old man – an uncalled-for act of violence

Conor McGregor has shocked the Irish people many times over, and the world for that matter, but this scenario left the nation gob-smacked.
He took his violent acts too far when he punched an older man who declined a shot of his whiskey in a Dublin bar.
1. Attack on a bus at Barclays Centre – a step too far
It’s one thing to be well-known for ridiculous trash talk but another thing to become known for your violent outbursts.
While Irish people once shrugged off McGregor’s ludicrous statements, it was when the MMA fighter attacked the bus of Khabib Nurmagomedov, injuring multiple UFC fighters on board, that the Irish nation held their heads in shame.
So, there it is, ten times Ireland should’ve disowned Conor McGregor, and there are plenty more where that came from.
