For the very first time, Boojum celebrates Veganuary with a meat-free alternative to an iconic and much-loved Mexican dish.

Vegetarians and vegans, rejoice! Ireland’s much-loved burrito chain, Boojum, has introduced an additional plant-based product for Veganuary 2023.

Available until the end of January this year, you need to get out and get your hands on it to celebrate Veganuary with the new 100% plant-based ‘Alt’ Pastor dish.

This plant-based pork Alt Pastor burrito filling was rolled out across the north and south at the start of the month.

Boojum celebrates Veganuary with meat-free alternative – a tasty alternative

The Mock Al Pastor is said to taste very similar to the original.

Originating in Central Mexico, Al Pastor is a delicious dish made with seasoned and marinated spit-grilled slices of pork.

With a very distinct flavour profile, Boojum’s own chefs have replicated the taste using a plant-based meat alternative to create the [MOCK]® pork.

It involves a bespoke soya and mushroom protein developed exclusively for Boojum and its diners.

The plant-based protein will be combined with Boojum’s own Al Pastor seasoning and sauce for the dish, with the traditional addition of pineapple pieces to add sweetness.

An exciting collaboration – Boojum teams up with plant-based producers

Head down to Boojum to try their Veganuary speciality.

Harpreet Gill, Founder at [MOCK]®, says, “We’re excited to collaborate with Boojum on this innovative dish for Veganuary 2023. Boojum have utilised our chef quality [MOCK]®Pork to produce something truly creative and tasty.

“We can’t wait for all Boojum’s customers to try it out, it’s the tastiest dish we’ve tried to date and now a firm favourite! We specialise in chef quality meat alternatives that even the most ardent meat eaters enjoy.

“Boojum’s [MOCK] ®Alt Pastor will give people a real reason to get excited about plant-based products and reducing their meat consumption which aligns with our mission of helping more people eat less meat”.

The aptly named ‘Alt’ Pastor will be served with optional Vegan Chipotle Sour Cream.

Another great addition for vegans and vegetarians – joining the ranks

Another great addition for vegans and vegetarians.

Paul McCullagh, Marketing Manager at Boojum, talked about the importance of Veganuary. He said, “Vegetarian meals are the second most ordered dish in Boojum, so we are aware that many of our customers are keen to try plant-based alternatives to our traditional Mexican meal options.

“After months of product development and recipe refinement, we are confident that the [MOCK]®Alt Pastor is difficult to differentiate from the original meat-based dish. Both in terms of flavour and the quality of the meat alternative.

“It’s smoky and sweet, with a mild chilli heat which should appeal to vegans, vegetarians and flexitarians alike”.

In the past, Boojum has had hit Veganuary specialities, like the Sweet Potato and Lentil dish, from January 2020. Meanwhile, the 3 Bean Chilli became a permanent fixture on the menu following a fan campaign.

The [MOCK]® Alt Pastor is available across all of Boojum’s ordering channels. This includes in-store, click ‘n collect and delivery until the end of January 2023.
